Carry the Rest of the Country

{link » The Good—Part III}
[...]
“In other words, there are millions of impressive Americans, who get up in the morning at 5AM, go to bed at 10PM, avoid the bars, the drugs, the crime — and carry the rest of the country on their backs. My only worry is that those in Washington misunderstand this rare cohort, and so demonize them as the “wealthy,” as if they bundled subprime mortgages on Wall Street and took $10 million annual bonuses. What President Obama should be doing is allotting a mini-second timeout from all the Chicago demagogic rhetoric about the “rich and powerful”, the noble needy and victimized, instead to praise those who paid their mortgages without a hitch, aren’t late on their rarely used credit cards, pay their bills when they arrive, and thereby allowing by their code others to default without ruining the country.

He needs to thank this invisible nation for paying most of the taxes, for creating the wealth to pay for community organizers and politicians, for not costing the government billions for self-induced health problems, crime, parole, counseling, drug rehab, and all the other pathologies that instead garner our attention. We are lucky to have these brilliant Americans of the old school; in toto they comprise a nation larger than France or Britain, and more or less ensure that the world abroad does not completely look like Libya, Venezuela, North Korea or Iran.

We are protected by the most competent, judicious — and lethal — military in the history of civilization. The great tragedy of Iraq is that no one really credits our soldiers for doing the near impossible: they went into the heart of the ancient caliphate, took out a genocidal monster, stayed on to foster consensual government, endured often poisonous attacks from critics at home (Cf. Harry Reid’s the war is “lost”, the slurs from Durbin, Kennedy, Kerry, and Murtha that our boys were terrorists or analogous to Baathists, Pol Pot, Stalin, etc.), and triumphed at a cost less than during a major campaign in World War II (e.g., far less than say Iwo Jima, the Bulge, Okinawa, etc).

Today Obama was boasting that he could redirect soldiers to Afghanistan now that Iraq was quiet — as if in his mere 70 days he had anything to do with the bravery and skill that brought Iraq to its improving state, as if we’ve forgotten that he wanted all troops gone by March 2008, declared the surge a failure, and voted to cut off funding for the war. Iraq was won despite the politicians, contrary to the conventional wisdom, and largely due to the ingenuity of our soldiers.”
[...]
“There is an officer corps whose members are, to be frank, relics of an American past. They are ossified in amber as it were, and really do believe in passé things like honor, duty, country, God, sacrifice, and the continuation of the American experiment. Meet a Marine colonel, an Army major, an Air Force one-star, or a Navy captain and it is often as if you are talking to a younger version of your grandfather, as if we packed thousands of our best in ice around 1945, and then thawed them out in the 21st century. These odd men and women of the old breed will do almost anything as outlined in the Constitution to ensure that their country — you and I — is safe and continues on in perpetuity.

Our enlisted men have a rambunctious, upbeat attitude, if you will. This generation of youth seems unafraid, reckless even, and — despite the demonization in popular culture of the military, the male, physicality, etc. — seems to pride in being on the cutting edge of danger. They are superb fighters. Few would wish to test the US Marines; the Marines or Rangers I had met in two visits to Iraq seemed to me far scarier than a masked al-Qaeda terrorist rambling on videos waving his scimitar. Indeed, they were scarier. Talking to a 20-year old Marine in Ramadi with bulging biceps, loaded down with 70 pounds of gear and weaponry, smiling as he lets on that he’s been up for 30 straight hours is a surreal experience.”

Them's Fighting Words

{link » Fauxrage In Mexico}
There are plenty of things to criticize the Obama administration over, particularly if you count yourself among the deficit hawks and fiscal conservatives. But these endless “amateur bumbler dummy” stories make you look like the sullen children on the playground who lose ten consecutive games of T-ball and can then think of nothing more productive to do than follow the winners around shooting spitballs at them. Obama won the election, folks, and you’re going to have to find a way to quiet your own demons for at least the next four years or run the risk of choking on your own bile. Stories like this make me far less inclined to take you (or your candidates) very seriously.
 — By Jazz Shaw, Assistant Editor of The [so-called] Moderate Voice
For those who have never experienced losing "ten consecutive games of T-ball" on a playground, here is a translation of the above-quoted snit:
Sticks and stones can break my Daddy's bones, but names can never harm him. When you call my Daddy and his friends "bumblers", however, them's fighting words. My Daddy can lick your Daddy with one hand tied behind his back. So you'd better watch what you say, or I'm telling! I don't like you, and I'm going home. Now give me back my ball; it's the only one I have.

Dear Mr. President ...

Suppose you had a chance to speak to our President with the knowledge that he would listen to you if you were brief. What would you tell him?

Say it in the comments section for this post, and if you observe the following guidelines, I'll publish your remarks. I have it on good authority that the President subscribes to my blog's RSS feed.
    "Tell the President" Guidelines
  • One sentence and 140 characters maximum (I'll let Twitter do the counting).

Big3 too big to fail?

{link » 5th generation aircraft}

The argument that Detroit's automakers are crucial to our Nation's defense is bunk. If a big war comes our way, it's not going to be like WWII, when thousands of tanks were required. What we will need more than anything else to win that kind of war will be air dominance, provided by 5th generation aircraft. Detroit can't even make a decent car.

And so it grows ...

{link » Barack Obama, CC'83, First Columbia Graduate Elected President of the United States}
"We note with pride that Barack Obama will not only be the nation's first African American president, he will also be the first Columbia graduate to occupy the Oval Office," Columbia president Lee C. Bollinger said.

 h/t Theo
I note with chagrin that this is the same president Bollinger who provided to an avowed enemy of Western civilization, of the United States and its allies in particular, and by extension of the once great Columbia University itself, a platform from which to broadcast to the world his obscene uncivilized views. It was a serious lapse in judgment, at best, and an instance of abetting genocidal propaganda, at worst.

I further note that the President of the United States is following in the footsteps of the president of his (and, sadly, my own) alma mater. Columbia has become a cesspool of liberal fascist insanity. I fear the insanity has metastasized way beyond the Columbia campus in upper Manhattan.

It's later and much uglier than you think ...

{link » The Ugly—Part Two}
I) The Corruption of the Press. [...] We are beginning to see that the media is about to add humiliation to its moral failure, as it grasps that once you worship a Messiah, you cannot leave the cult. Mr. Obama tolerates no dissent among the believers. The recent Obama press conference showed what happens to the shunned New York Times or Washington Post once you even consider climbing over the fence of the compound. What were these sycophants thinking as they watched Obama produce all sorts of bogus figures in assuring that tripling the deficit, then halving it will translate into lessening the present red-ink? Again, imagine a sequel to the Wizard of Oz, where everyone goes on thinking that the floating image on the screen with the smoke really is Oz, despite seeing the tiny man behind the curtain with his hands busy with the levers. The media knows what they’ve become, and already have seen the flip side of their one-eyed Jack — and is now trapped in culthood.

II) Uglier still is what is going on in universities. [...] As it is now, most colleges expect alumni to give blindly — assuming that they are to remain unaware of the nature of the faculty profile, the content of the curriculum, or the activities of the universities — on the premise that any would-be donor, had he known what his alma mater was up to, would not like to subsidize classes like “The poetics of the low-rider,” or faculty like Ward Churchill (most colleges have a few), or $50,000 and up paid out for a 45-minute “I hate Bush” rant by Michael Moore at the student union, or 139-5 faculty senate votes (like Saddam’s plebiscites) on extraneous issues like gay marriage. Yes, there is humor in higher education. Nothing is weirder [than] to see a provost head-nod among a wacked-out faculty meeting, then put on a suit and rush off to a five-star restaurant to reassure an aging capitalist that the university is a steward of American values. [...]

III) Europeanization. [...] Europeanization is so at odds with human nature that it bifurcates it — a false public face, a cynical private one. (I used to love living in Greece, going to the beach in the summer as a student and seeing all these socialist public power, phone, water, bank, etc., vans parked as their left-wing employees “got away” for some downtime around 2 PM — or being told I could hire a public worker after hours for cash for a phone installation rather than wait 9 months on “the list”.) Marxist at the day-job, conniving entrepreneur in the night hours.

It seems that in just 60 days we are heading that way — fast. These gargantuan deficits will require the most insidious taxes (on everything, as in the age of Augustus) we have yet witnessed, to make up the soon to be $20 trillion national debt. Universal health care, college for everyone [including clowns], government jobs will mean a vast array of technocrati [like the clowns churned out by the "colleges"] and less-skilled overseers and guardians. Less defense, higher taxes, more social spending, bigger government will expand the public sector to such a degree that to dismantle it will result in the sort of European mass protests and strikes we see daily in Greece or France when a poor fool like Sarkozy thinks it could be 1950 again, and wants to head-off pension insolvency, or bring back a 40 hour work week to the subway drivers. Modern Battle Cry of Freedom

{link » Evan Sayet's Speech: Hating What's Right: How the Modern Liberal Winds Up on the Wrong Side of Every Issue}
[...]
They were raised to believe that indiscriminateness is a moral imperative because its opposite is the evil of having discriminated. [...] And this is an essential corollary, indiscriminateness of thought does not lead to indiscriminateness of policy. It leads the modern liberal to invariably side with evil over good, wrong over right, and the behaviors that lead to failure over those that lead to success. Why? Very simply, if nothing is to be recognized as better or worse than anything else, then success is de facto unjust.
[...]
The multiculturalist must, de facto, become an apologist for tyranny. He must also, de facto, become antagonistic to liberty. And, in fact, if you extrapolate this out to all of those who are indiscriminate across the board, not just with regard to culture, they must, de facto, become antagonistic towards all that is good, right, and successful.
[...]
Think about it this way: if we can agree, if we can stipulate, that the United States is the most successful nation in human history, that we are the most prosperous — that we are the strongest, that we are the most ingenuous and creative and productive, if we can stipulate that, this needs to be explained. And, in essence, there are only two possibilities to explain this:

Either, there is something exceptional about our culture, about our founding documents, about the unprecedented Judeo-Christian heritage, about our Protestant work ethic, whatever it is, it combines to create culture. And that what is exceptional about our culture nurtures productivity, prosperity, strength.

Or, there is nothing special about our culture and, therefore, our success is unjust. And the duration we are now finishing is the first decade of the second American century. The duration and the magnitude of our success makes this injustice not just accidental, not just some luck along the way. It's got to be proof positive of our having cheated. Our success is de facto unjust, and the degree of our success proves that we are the most unjust peoples in the history of the world.

At this point the modern liberal, the multiculturalist, has already taken one of those two possibilities off the table. He cannot believe that it is an exceptional culture, because he wouldn't be a multiculturalist if he could. So with only two possibilities, and having removed one of them from the table, the modern liberal does not have to engage in what he considers a hate crime, which is rational and moral thought, because the answer is pre-ordained.
[...]
 — Evan Sayet
The modern liberal is the scourge of the 21st century. S/he is the product of the insanity of the 1960's, the so-called flower-power generation of drug-addled losers, who grew older but by no means wiser. These morons who started out as simply pains-in-the-ass during the 60's and 70's, are now the majority of baby boomers who have infiltrated positions of power in our federal government.

Those of us who have managed to keep our wits about us in the midst of such rampaging ignorance and anarchy, must wrest the power from these destroyers of all that is right about the blessing that is America. Otherwise, the obamination that is modern liberalism will extinguish, possibly forever, the single most important progressive advance in human history — The United States of America.

The Geometry of Civilized Living

Geometrically speaking, living in the civilized world comprises a domain of personally-motivated activity confined within a boundary of lawful restraints for the common good. Down through the ages, the sages of "living geometry" have pondered how best to balance the tendency of collective desires to push the envelope of prudent restraint, with the need to preserve the latter's integrity.

The early focus of sociology was how to establish a proper domain for civilized living. Clearly, it is necessary to define a boundary before one can think about a domain. Whereupon we received the Decalogue via one of the great prophets, along with its elaboration in biblical text. From the latter comprehensive treatise was distilled a kind of "pocket user's guide", namely the Golden Rule: "That which is hateful to you, do not do to your fellow".

Once a working boundary was established (and, as a consequence, the domain within defined) the bounded domain of civilized living became the focus of elaboration, debate, and warfare. This is a natural consequence of the great diversity of opinions about humanity's interests and concerns, the two great social forces of opposing give and take. Arguably, the greatest distillation of the collective principles of civilized living derives from what has been called the American Testament: the inalienable right of man to his pursuit of happiness, within the legal bounds of our Constitution.

So much for my preface. Now, what must an individual do to benefit from the inalienable rights that generations of men and women conferred on us at enormous cost? It's not simple; but it is straightforward. First and foremost, learn what the world has to offer. In the civilized world, this means get the best formal education you can afford, heavily supplemented by self-directed reading of books. Next, and possibly during your education, decide what appeals to you and how best to proceed. In the civilized world, this means decide what you want to be when you grow up. Then, grow up and aim to be the best "you" that you can be.

As has frequently been the case, Big Bill the Bard said it best: "To thine own self be true". To which I would humbly add a reasonable constraint on uninhibited narcissism: try not to be a schmuck.

“It's better, obviously, if the president didn't intend the disparagement than if he did. But his remark was disparaging whatever he intended and that is why the apology is necessary. So it should be that he regrets what he said and apologizes for it, without more ado. That makes it clear the White House understands there was an insult in the remark, irrespective of the president's state of mind in uttering it.”
 — Norman Geras
I have posted here on several occasions about the general erosion of personal accountability in our society. The concept that one is responsible for the transgressions one didn't intend is so completely foreign to our collective psyche, it is not surprising our American-Idol-in-Chief is oblivious to it. "Mistakes" are not what they used to be, and "sorry seems to be the hardest word".

The Tragedy Formerly Known as California

{link » A Blogger Can Dream }
“California voters run the budget process, thanks to the state’s initiative process. And judging by their current situation, California voters are big stupid idiot dummy heads, for whom the words “basic accounting” and “prioritizing” are even more alien than “coat and tie required.” If you want to fix what’s wrong with California, scrap the state’s constitution and start over.

And if you’ll allow me, a few modest proposals:

1. No provision for an initiative process.
2. No amendments to the new constitution without the approval of two-thirds of both houses of the legislature and three quarters of the county governments, ala the federal constitution.
3. A 25-year-long 5% budget surplus requirement, to inculcate some decent spending habits, and to provide for an emergency reserve in a state with lots of potential for natural disasters.
4. A taxpayer’s bill of rights, modeled on Colorado’s, minus the stupid loopholes we left in.
5. Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars will be required to send a case of Cask 23 Cabernet Sauvignon each year that it’s produced, to a certain Stephen Green of Monument, Colorado.
6. The new Constitution should be short enough to fit on a few sheets of notebook paper.
7. Limit state spending to 5-7% of state GDP. A hundred billion dollars ought to be enough spending for anyone sane.”

And their fastest growing demographic are illegal aliens, while able-bodied tax payers are leaving in droves. It's a normal American's nightmare in danger of metasticizing to the uninfected parts of our great Union.

Beware what you hopey-dopey for ...

{link » The Brokest Generation}
“Are you sure you young folks will be able to pay off this massive Mount Spendmore of multi-trillion-dollar debts we’ve piled up on you?

"Yes, we can!"

We thought you’d say that! God bless the youth of America! We of the Greatest Generation, the Boomers, and Generation X salute you, the plucky members of the Brokest Generation, the Gloomers, and Generation Y, as in "Why the hell did you old coots do this to us?"

Because, as politicians like to say, it’s about "the future of all our children." And the future of all our children is that they’ll be paying off the past of all their grandparents. At 12 percent of GDP, this year’s deficit is the highest since the Second World War, and prioritizes not economic vitality but massive expansion of government. But hey, it’s not our problem. As Lord Keynes observed, "In the long run we’re all dead." Well, most of us will be. But not you youngsters, not for a while. So we’ve figured it out: You’re the ultimate credit market, and the rest of us are all pre-approved!"
 — Mark Steyn

So, after "standing around behind Barack Obama at all those campaign rallies helping him look dynamic and telegenic and earnestly chanting hopey-hopey-changey-changey", how's that hokey-pokey hopey-dopey working for you? Looking forward to your future?

You can continue to blame all your woes on George Bush, but it's not even Obama's fault. It's all on you, those of you who: abrogated personal accountability; suspended your sense of reality; stoked your Bush Derangement Syndrome; allowed Holyshitwood to become your spokesmen; ignored history (or didn't bother to consult it); sacrificed common sense at the altar of ignorance; and partied to the tune of a $500M ad campaign.

Party on, dude, because when the party's over, it's over for-evah. The people deserve the government they elect, so beware what you hopey-dopey for; you might just get it; in spades. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain; he's from the government, and he's here to help you; sucka. You broke it; you own it. Peace out.

What occupation?

{link » REPORT FROM MALMO}
“Sweden hasn't subjected a country to a sports boycott since South Africa was barred from playing in the country during Apartheid. But Malmö's 'strong man' has changing demography to consider. Of Malmö's 287,000 inhabitants, 50,000 are Muslim and 30,000 are of Arab origin. In 2004, the most common name for baby boys in the city was Mohammed. These population changes, of course, have far-reaching political implications. Or as Reepalu put it, when explaining the motivation for the Davis Cup boycott, 'A large part of Malmö's population comes from the Middle East. Many have relatives in Gaza who have gotten in trouble. They are frustrated and angry with Israel's occupation.'” [emphasis added]

Israel's occupation? What occupation?

Well, as Scott points out, "The reference to frustration and anger with 'Israel's occupation' is of course to Israel's occupation of Israel. Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005. Those following the news will be aware that Israel's withdrawal from Gaza didn't do much to pacify the region. The existence of Israel itself seems to be the problem."

“I believe that the inability of the American public to discuss, or the government to consider, any option for US policies in the Middle East opposed by the ruling faction in Israeli politics has allowed that faction to adopt and sustain policies that ultimately threaten the existence of the State of Israel. It is not permitted for anyone in the United States to say so. This is not just a tragedy for Israelis and their neighbors in the Middle East; it is doing widening damage to the national security of the United States.” [emphasis added]

American Solutions That Make Sense

{link » The Trouble with Obama's New Deal}
“The outlines of such a budget can be found at AmericanSolutions.com. Our 12 American Solutions for Jobs and Prosperity include creating a temporary new tax credit to offset 50% of the payroll tax (helping both workers and small businesses), cutting the business tax rate to 12.5% to match Ireland's, and reducing the 25% marginal income tax rate to 15%, effectively establishing a flat tax rate of 15% for almost 9 out of 10 American workers. These steps would put more money into the hands of American businesses and consumers faster than any stimulus plan that has to disburse money through a centralized bureaucracy.”

The Old Jarhead Speaks for Me

{link » I'm Tired}
“I’ll be 63 soon. Except for one semester in college when jobs were scarce, and a six-month period when I was between jobs, but job-hunting every day, I’ve worked, hard, since I was 18. Despite some health challenges, I still put in 50-hour weeks, and haven’t called in sick in seven or eight years. I make a good salary, but I didn’t inherit my job or my income, and I worked to get where I am. Given the economy, there’s no retirement in sight, and I’m tired. Very tired.

I’m tired of being told that I have to ‘spread the wealth around’ to people who don’t have my work ethic. I’m tired of being told the government will take the money I earned, by force if necessary, and give it to people too lazy or stupid to earn it.

I’m tired of being told that I have to pay more taxes to ‘keep people in their homes.’ Sure, if they lost their jobs or got sick, I’m willing to help. But if they bought McMansions at three times the price of our paid-off, $250,000 condo, on one-third of my salary, then let the leftwing Congresscritters who passed Fannie and Freddie and the Community Reinvestment Act that created the bubble help them—with their own money.

I’m tired of being told how bad America is by leftwing millionaires like Michael Moore, George Soros and Hollywood entertainers who live in luxury because of the opportunities America offers. In thirty years, if they get their way, the United States will have the religious freedom and women’s rights of Saudi Arabia, the economy of Zimbabwe, the freedom of the press of China, the crime and violence of Mexico, the tolerance for Gay people of Iran, and the freedom of speech of Venezuela. Won’t multiculturalism be beautiful?

I’m tired of being told that Islam is a ‘Religion of Peace,’ when every day I can read dozens of stories of Muslim men killing their sisters, wives and daughters for their family ‘honor;’ of Muslims rioting over some slight offense; of Muslims murdering Christians and Jews because they aren’t ‘believers;’ of Muslims burning schools for girls; of Muslims stoning teenage rape victims to death for ‘adultery;’ of Muslims mutilating the genitals of little girls; all in the name of Allah, because the Qur’an and Shari’a law tells them to.

I believe ‘a man should be judged by the content of his character, not by the color of his skin.’ I’m tired of being told that ‘race doesn’t matter’ in the post-racial world of President Obama, when it’s all that matters in affirmative action jobs, lower college admission and graduation standards for minorities (harming them the most), government contract set-asides, tolerance for the ghetto culture of violence and fatherless children that hurts minorities more than anyone, and in the appointment of US Senators from Illinois. I think it’s very cool that we have a black president and that a black child is doing her homework at the desk where Lincoln wrote the emancipation proclamation. I just wish the black president was Condi Rice, or someone who believes more in freedom and the individual and less in an all-knowing government.

I’m tired of a news media that thinks Bush’s fundraising and inaugural expenses were obscene, but that think Obama’s, at triple the cost, were wonderful. That thinks Bush exercising daily was a waste of presidential time, but Obama exercising is a great example for the public to control weight and stress, that picked over every line of Bush’s military records, but never demanded that Kerry release his, that slammed Palin with two years as governor for being too inexperienced for VP, but touted Obama with three years as senator as potentially the best president ever.

Wonder why people are dropping their subscriptions or switching to Fox News? Get a clue. I didn’t vote for Bush in 2000, but the media and Kerry drove me to his camp in 2004.

I’m tired of being told that out of ‘tolerance for other cultures’ we must let Saudi Arabia use our oil money to fund mosques and madrassa Islamic schools to preach hate in America, while no American group is allowed to fund a church, synagogue or religious school in Saudi Arabia to teach love and tolerance.

I’m tired of being told I must lower my living standard to fight global warming, which no one is allowed to debate. My wife and I live in a two-bedroom apartment and carpool together five miles to our jobs. We also own a three-bedroom condo where our daughter and granddaughter live. Our carbon footprint is about 5% of Al Gore’s, and if you’re greener than Gore, you’re green enough.

I’m tired of being told that drug addicts have a disease, and I must help support and treat them, and pay for the damage they do. Did a giant germ rush out of a dark alley, grab them, and stuff white powder up their noses while they tried to fight it off? I don’t think Gay people choose to be Gay, but I damn sure think druggies chose to take drugs. And I’m tired of harassment from cool people treating me like a freak when I tell them I never tried marijuana.

I’m tired of illegal aliens being called ‘undocumented workers,’ especially the ones who aren’t working, but are living on welfare or crime. What’s next? Calling drug dealers, ‘Undocumented Pharmacists’? And, no, I’m not against Hispanics. Most of them are Catholic and it’s been a few hundred years since Catholics wanted to kill me for my religion. I’m willing to fast track for citizenship any Hispanic person who can speak English, doesn’t have a criminal record and who is self-supporting without family on welfare, or who serves honorably for three years in our military. Those are the citizens we need.

I’m tired of latte liberals and journalists, who would never wear the uniform of the Republic themselves, or let their entitlement-handicapped kids near a recruiting station, trashing our military. They and their kids can sit at home, never having to make split-second decisions under life and death circumstances, and bad mouth better people then themselves. Do bad things happen in war? You bet. Do our troops sometimes misbehave? Sure. Does this compare with the atrocities that were the policy of our enemies for the last fifty years—and still are? Not even close. So here’s the deal. I’ll let myself be subjected to all the humiliation and abuse that was heaped on terrorists at Abu Ghraib or Gitmo, and the critics can let themselves be subject to captivity by the Muslims who tortured and beheaded Daniel Pearl in Pakistan, or the Muslims who tortured and murdered Marine Lt. Col. William Higgins in Lebanon, or the Muslims who ran the blood-spattered Al Qaeda torture rooms our troops found in Iraq, or the Muslims who cut off the heads of schoolgirls in Indonesia, because the girls were Christian. Then we’ll compare notes. British and American soldiers are the only troops in history that civilians came to for help and handouts, instead of hiding from in fear.

I’m tired of people telling me that their party has a corner on virtue and the other party has a corner on corruption. Read the papers—bums are bi-partisan. And I’m tired of people telling me we need bi-partisanship. I live in Illinois, where the ‘Illinois Combine’ of Democrats and Republicans has worked together harmoniously to loot the public for years. And I notice that the tax cheats in Obama’s cabinet are bi-partisan as well.

I’m tired of hearing wealthy athletes, entertainers and politicians of both parties talking about innocent mistakes, stupid mistakes or youthful mistakes, when we all know they think their only mistake was getting caught. I’m tired of people with a sense of entitlement, rich or poor.

Speaking of poor, I’m tired of hearing people with air-conditioned homes, color TVs and two cars called poor. The majority of Americans didn’t have that in 1970, but we didn’t know we were ‘poor.’ The poverty pimps have to keep changing the definition of poor to keep the dollars flowing.

I’m real tired of people who don’t take responsibility for their lives and actions. I’m tired of hearing them blame the government, or discrimination, or big-whatever for their problems.

Yes, I’m damn tired. But I’m also glad to be 63. Because, mostly, I’m not going to get to see the world these people are making. I’m just sorry for my granddaughter.”

Beyond Disgusting

{link » Families of dead soldiers react with fury to Muslim hate preacher's taunts}
“The families of soldiers killed by friendly fire in Iraq have reacted with fury after a firebrand preacher taunted them over the deaths of their loved ones.

Anjem Chourdary added insult to the injury caused by Islamic extremists' hate-filled protest against soldiers returning home from the war-torn region by saying they were 'not heroes but closer to coweards [sic] who cannot fight, as their uncanny knack for death by friendly fire illustrates'.

The three soldiers to whom he was referring - Privates Robert Foster, 19, John Thrumble, 21, and Aaron McClure, 19 - were killed in Afghanistan in August 2007 when an American F-15 jet dropped a 500lb bomb on their position.

Choudary's extraordinary comments were delivered hours after Muslim protesters waved offensive placards as members of 2nd Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment marched through Luton.

The preacher, the right-hand man to cleric of hate Omar Bakri, went on to attack the 'vile' parade. He said the soldiers were 'terrorists', comparing them to Nazi troops who 'cannot be excused for simply carrying out their duty'.”
As disgusting as such blatant violation of the social contract is, the wanton shredding (yes, shredding, you f*cking leftists) of the social contract by those who excuse and even support such scumbag clerics, and whose antecedents gave their all so as to nurture their descendants with the blessings of liberty and the rule of law, is beyond disgusting. Indeed, it is beyond words, logic, and basic human decency.

A plague on all the miserable scum, who would undo by their ignorance that which took Western civilization millennia to evolve, and who in so doing would deprive us all, as well as our own descendants, surcease from bellum omnium contra omnes, a Latin phrase meaning "the war of all against all".

You'll Never See This On MSM-TV

I waste too much time watching MSM news programming on TV, albeit while getting a cardio workout, so it's not a complete waste of time. Nevertheless, I would love to see something like the following interview when pigs finally learn to fly:
MSM-TV talking head Smedley Dumrindurt [SD]: "Today's guest is Congressman Blarney Frankinbut [BF], Democrat from the great state of East Eden. Welcome Congressman."

BF: "Thanks for having me, Smedley."

SD: "Congressman, the President has promised the American people that it won't be 'business as usual' when he is in the Oval Office. Yet, he chose not to veto the Omnibus Spending Bill, despite the close to 9,000 earmarks of wasteful spending in it. Why wouldn't he keep his promise to eliminate earmarks?"

BF: "Well, Smedley, we have a Democrat majority in the House and Senate, as you well know."

SD: "True enough, Congressman, but he still could have vetoed the Bill. Why didn't he?"

BF: "Well, the President did win the election in November, even though there are only 50 states in the Union [smirk]."

SD: "Also true, Congressman, but ... oh, never mind. Let's move on to the next question. Congressman Frankinbut, why don't you just go f*ck yourself?"

Here's what I know ...

{link » What Do They Know? True Confessions of a Conflicted Money Guru}
“The language of psychotherapy -- the recognition that few things in life are black and white, that it mostly consists of perplexing shades of gray -- seems immensely more helpful now than the self-assured, directive lingo we've all become accustomed to speaking or hearing. The advice I trust the most now comes wrapped in doubt. Here's what I'd do, and this is why I think it's right, but I'm not sure. What's implicit is the acknowledgment that very little is a sure thing, that if we follow this advice, we're following at our own risk, and that every potential gain also carries within it the possibility of loss.”
 — By Joel Lovell, Sunday, March 1, 2009
Here's what I know: there is no reward without risk, which is another way of saying "there is no free lunch". That is a universal truism, which applies to capitalism, socialism, and even obamination. If there is one thing that lies at the heart of our troubles and all of the remedies proposed it is our failure and/or our unwillingness to face that reality.

We demand freedom, but refuse personal accountability (AKA "the dog ate my homework"). We want health care, but want someone else to pay for it (how is that different from wanting free room and board?). We want the government to protect us from people who want to kill us, but we senselessly protest when the government does just that, presumably because we want the f*cking Europeans to like us. We want a "good" education but all we are willing to do is get rowdy, stinking drunk, and laid. We want Obama to take care of our mortgage and fill up our gas tank because, well ... because he promised.

What a bunch of whining losers we have become — show me ...; buy me ...; take me ...! F*ck me, me, me. I want the whole enchilada; I want it on a silver platter; and I want it now! Why, you ask? Because you owe me.

Nobody owes you a goddamn thing, except, and it is a grand privilege at that, the right to pursue happiness. That's it, baby. Everything else you have to get the old fashioned way — you have to earn it! But first, decide how much risk you are willing to assume, because there is no reward without risk; that's just how the universe works (AKA no pain; no gain). That's how it works in sports; that's how it works in life. You take on risk; you succeed; you're good to go. You don't succeed; you try again. It is not my job or anyone else's job to bail you out, mofo. Get over yourself.

Here's something else I know: The One is one big-ass mistake, America.

The Limitations of Irony and Snark

{link » Soldiers of Peace}
“Through its policies toward Israel on the one hand and Iran and Syria on the other, the Obama administration demonstrates that it has already accepted a nuclear Iran. Its chief concern today is to avoid being blamed when the mushroom clouds appear in the sky. And it may well achieve that aim. After all, how could the administration be blamed for a nuclear Iran when it has wholly devoted its efforts to advancing the righteous cause of peace?”
 — Caroline Glick
When humanity's last best hope is assaulted from without, America has prevailed time and time again. But when America is assaulted from without while aided by a vast alliance of hubris, self-righteousness, ignorance, and possibly malevolence from within, it is time to set aside inadequate measures. Irony and snark can't make a dent in the euphoria of "hope and change" mysticism.

Our government and large portions of our mainstream society is in thrall to the culture of celebrity at a time when our Nation is desperate for common sense and clarity of vision. It is one thing, albeit a seriously bad thing, to screw with the financial well being of the Nation. It is quite another to screw with the Nation's continued existence.

The proliferation of nuclear weapons to those whose principal aim is to destroy Western civilization is not a viable option for the United States to endure. That is not irony. That is not snark. That is a fact.

$650,000 for Beaver Management

{link » FLOOR STATEMENT BY SENATOR McCAIN ON H.R. 1105, THE OMNIBUS APPROPRIATIONS ACT, 2009}
[...]
These funding priorities should have the binding force of law, subject only to the President’s veto power. Yet here we are, with a Statement of Managers that totals 1844 pages, including 775 pages identifying over 9,000 members’ earmark requests that are expected to be funded, although most of them are not contained in the bill text. And, because they are conveniently not listed in the bill text, members who question the merits of specific earmarks are unable to offer an amendment to specifically strike them. They are wasteful and they should not be funded, period.

Examples include:
[...]
$650,000 for beaver management in North Carolina and Mississippi

[emphasis added]
Wasteful? Six hundred and fifty kilobucks for beaver management, in two states no less, is preposterous!

Saving Face

{link » The Voice Of Moderation: Form Counts, Too}
“The moderate middle voted for Barack Obama because he made them feel good about themselves. Do not underestimate the attachment people have to how a candidate makes them feel. People are heavily invested in this man. They want him to succeed because if he fails, it’s a reflection on them.

I told a friend last night that it’s not unlike an abused girlfriend. She doesn’t stay with the guy because he’s so great. She stays with him because leaving him would mean everyone else was right and more importantly, she was wrong. She can’t admit that. So she stays and sings his praises and tells people ‘you just don’t understand him.’ That will be the press. That will be the moderate middle. They are too far down the path with him. They can’t come back and save any sort of face if they wanted to.” [emphasis added]
 — By Dr. Melissa Clouthier
I think Melissa is on to something fundamental in human nature. In my experience, the two most difficult things for people to say are ‘I'm sorry’ and ‘I was wrong’. In some cultures, saving face is more important than saving lives.

Perhaps it's best not to rub the "hope and change" crowd's noses in the shit-storm raining down on us all. Forgoing the satisfaction of pointing out the obvious to them is worth the possibility they'll silently recognize the consequences of their former misguided actions.

A Not-So-Modest Proposal for Our Nation and for Humanity

{link » More military officers demand eligibility proof}
“Military officers from the U.S. Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines are working with California attorney Orly Taitz and her Defend Our Freedoms Foundation, citing a legal right established in British common law nearly 800 years ago and recognized by the U.S. Founding Fathers to demand documentation that may prove – or disprove – Barack Obama's eligibility to be president.”
 — By Bob Unruh © 2009 WorldNetDaily
My fellow Americans, what the f*ck is going on here? And why the f*ck is it going on here? North, south, east, and west — as far as the eye can see, there is galloping insanity. We are heading down the toilet known as Europe.

America is the last best hope for humanity, NOT insanity! Fortunately, we are a nation of laws that stem from that crown jewel of jurisprudence — the United States Constitution, with its fundamental concept of Checks and Balances among the Branches of our tripartite government: Executive; Legislative; and Judicial. At this momentous juncture of our history, the Judicial Branch is the only one of the three that is not completely bonkers.

I propose that the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) rule the last General Election to have been Unconstitutional, by virtue of the Constitutional requirement that the President must be a natural born citizen of the United States. Immediately thereafter, the SCOTUS should declare martial law and the Chief Justice should assume the duties of Acting Chief Executive and Acting Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, until such time that a fresh and Constitutionally valid General Election can be held. The only proviso of the do-over General Election would be that all those currently holding positions of leadership, whose Executive and Congressional positions would be subject to (re-)election, would be disqualified from candidacy in the fresh General Election.

Perilous times require bold action. It is time for our most passive Branch to take action to save the Nation, and the hapless rest of the world.
