March Madness, April Folly, and Winter of Discontent

Nuclear Is Winter of Our Discontent

Image via Theo
In early March our Fiddler-in-Chief, Barack "Nero" Obama, assiduously prepared his March Madness bracket. Having completed this most pressing task on his agenda, he turned to his favorite pastime — destabilizing the Middle East. You see, boys and girls, Obama is only a pretend scholar, and history was never his forte. Having been briefed (ever so briefly) on the so-called "mutual assured destruction" [MAD] strategy, which succeeded in averting a nuclear annihilation between the United States and the Soviet Union, he embarked on a similar strategy for the relatively stable Middle East.

The middle east is now relatively stable, because a doomsday nuclear exchange requires at least two antagonistic nuclear powers. But this crucial bit of information escaped the usual steel-trap mind of our esteemed steamed president. He, therefore, pursued with a vengeance his phantom nuclear stand off between Israel and Iran, where, in fact none was required.

Once our narcissistic president embarks on a quest there is no turning him around. No amount of rational argument can sway him, for you see, boys and girls, Obama is more nearly infallible than the Pope — he is, after all, The Obama who was only wrong once in his life (the one time when he thought he had made a mistake). The Obama is on the verge of closing, to quote our fool-for-all-seasons VP, "a big f*cking deal" that will enable Iran to amass a nuclear stockpile. If, like most low-information and/or wilfully ignorant people you think this will be a good thing, think again. The other bit of crucial information that has escaped all the celebrants of this immense folly is this: MAD can only work if all participants in such a deadly game are sane, namely, no one is willing to risk total mutual annihilation. I submit that Iran is willing to risk it, however, because their holy obsessive goal in life is the death of all the world's Jews, especially those who live in Israel.

If you are inclined to think "so what", you might want to consider all the repercussions of such a calamity, not just those that are assured with certainty — the destruction of Israel and Iran. When (God forbid) a nuclear attack is launched by Iran, if Israel concludes that Iran's attack will annihilate the State of Israel (a decision that will have to be made within minutes of the launch), Israel will immediately launch their retaliatory attack. But don't relax just yet. The retaliation will be total. Every available weapon within the IDF's reach will be expended. If an excess of available weapons remains after all of Israel's enemies in the Middle East have been targeted, the remaining weapons will be targeted against Israel's historical enemies (you know who you are). Then, after all of that mayhem, you (wherever you may be) might have to contend with the nuclear winter that follows.

How's that relaxation working out for you?

70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Auschwitz

On January 27, 1945, Russian troops from Marshal Ivan Konev's
1st Ukrainian Front(*) liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp.

(*)During World War II, a Russian "army front" was the equivalent of an Anglo-American "army group". The front's name was typically a reference to its geographical location at the time of its military formation. Hence, the "1st Ukrainian Front" was the designation for the front (of Russian armies) that was leaving Russia behind and moving into the Ukraine (and subsequently into Poland) in its pursuit of the Wehrmacht (which was retreating toward Nazi Germany).

“Hateful speech against Israel, America and Western values must be responded to in the marketplace of ideas. It cannot be defeated by the censor. It must win the battle for the minds and hearts of open-minded students and faculty.”
— Alan M. Dershowitz, January 12, 2015 (gatestoneinstitute.org)

As is his wont, Mr. Dershowitz looks good on paper, as a renowned legal scholar should. But I suspect he is not being entirely ingenuous here. As most knowledgeable people are aware, American academia today is woefully deficient in open-mindedness.

I think that the biggest fly ("the size of a Buick" to quote Woody Allen) in the ointment of idealistic prescriptions is that our very flawed earthly circumstances are ill suited for idealism. And a principal contributor to our world's incongruity with idealism is the imperfectibility of human nature. Read my lips: Evil. Is. Ubiquitous.

Of course, the Golden Rule is one of the finest concepts on record. But in order to survive, let alone fluorish in the real world, you would be well advised to avoid any action that is a threat to your own well being.

I don't know who the author of the above op-ed article is. More importantly, I don't know what she is talking about. Most importantly, neither does she.

The war that Israel has been engaged in for the past 66 years (and counting) is not a PR war. There have been many misnomered "wars" since media hacks have begun styling themselves "warriors" of words: media wars; political wars; war against cigarettes; war against poverty; war against hunger; war against women; war against old white men; war against whatever ailes you. None of these describe's Israel's war.

Israel and its people are engaged in — and its people have been engaged in since time immemorial — existential war. Existential war is a war that nobody can afford to lose. The losers cease to exist.

“I admit I didn’t much care for Barack Obama before the revelation that he had secretly written Khamenei to induce the Iranian supreme leader to sign a nuclear deal in return for U.S. help battling ISIS. Now I despise our president. He is contemptible.

Ayatollah Khamenei is a man who has been leading the massive chants of “Death to Israel” (and the Jews) literally every day since 1979. Only a true anti-Semite could attempt to make a secret deal with such a person. Indeed, someone who would want to make a deal with Khamenei has about as much respect for human rights in general as Torquemada. That person would have to be an unmitigated liar and sociopath.

And such a person is our president, […]

It’s hard to know what motivates this man, our president, but it’s not so hard to know what motivates the gaggle of Jewish Democratic politicians — you know who you are […] Chuck Schumer, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Richard Blumenthal, Al Franken, Jerrold Nadler, Adam Schiff, etc., etc., who let him get away with that behavior and make a deal with a country that wants to eradicate Israel and then move on from there to whatever else is in sight (Yemen, these days). They are pathetic lackeys and careerists of the most slimey sort who would fit in well, as I said elsewhere, in Berlin, 1937.”

The following excerpt from the Maverick Philosopher is as good an answer as any:
Related source » Why is the World Becoming Such a Nasty Place?: 'via Blog this'
[This related source is recommended in its entirety.]

“I would add that to understand the Left you must understand that lefties typically leap to the defense of the perceived underdog regardless of what the underdog has done to deserve the treatment he receives.  Right and wrong don't come into it.  The relative weakness of the underdog is taken to justify his criminality while the decent people who defend themselves are urged, quite absurdly, to show restraint. The terrorist entity, Hamas, whose charter calls for the destruction of the state of Israel, understands this, a fact that lends a bit of sanity to their otherwise insanely self-destructive attack on Israel.  They seek the sympathy of the morally obtuse Left. This morally disgusting characteristic of leftists is also illustrated by the recent furor over so-called 'botched executions.'  They take the side of the scum of the earth while not even mentioning the suffering of the innocent victims.”

“Might does not make right, but neither does impotence or relative weakness. That weakness does not justify strikes me as an important principle, but I have never seen it articulated. The Left tends to assume the opposite. […] The power I have to kill you does not morally justify my killing you. In a slogan: Ability does not imply permissibility. My ability to kill, rape, pillage and plunder does not confer moral justification on my doing these things. But if you attack me with deadly force and I reply with deadly force of greater magnitude, your relative weakness does not supply one iota of moral justification for your attack, nor does it subtract one iota of moral justification from my defensive response. If I am justified in using deadly force against you as aggressor, then the fact that my deadly force is greater than yours does not (a) diminish my justification in employing deadly force, nor does it (b) confer any justification on your aggression.”
— Maverick Philosopher, July 24, 2014, (maverickphilosopher.typepad.com)

I would have thought it goes without saying that neither might nor relative weakness justify agression morally. Sadly, there is nothing that goes without saying to the sinister Left.

The sinister Left is devoid of any principles that would contradict their worldview. That worldview, of course, is replete with a repugnant attitude for self destruction.

My septuagenarian eyes have seen it all ...

   Матушка Россия                         Liberty                       Captain Hopey-Dopey

As a toddler, my mind's eye saw the glory of a people's indomitable spirit in vanquishing the Nazi invaders of Mother Russia. The sheer magnitude of the Russians' sacrifice and their magnificent determination to survive is virtually incomprehensible today.

Several years later, my child's eyes saw the glory of Anglo-American victory in General Eisenhower's American Occupation Zone. 'With malice toward none, with charity for all', the Lincolnian spirit permeated Western Europe.

A couple of years later, my young eyes saw the glory of American Liberty. With the clothes on our backs and indelible memories of the Allies' victory over Nazi Germany's depravity, our American dream had begun.

During the following decade, my eyes saw the glory of the American pursuit of happiness. Life was good. Truly. Even dreaded polio had been conquered.

And then it began to unravel. The flower children got bored. The greatest expansion of general well-being in recorded history was no longer good enough. The pursuit of happiness became a drag, man. Sex, drugs and rock and roll were where it's at, man. But they had to be free, man. Like, we're not into pursuit, man. That's too much like work, man.

And that ignorant beat goes on to this day. The poster child for that dope-smoking generation of no-accounts is now the putative leader of Western civilization! Lord have mercy.

My eyes have seen depravity. My eyes have seen the magnificent will to survive. My eyes have seen the worst of humanity. My eyes have seen the best of the human spirit.

Alas, I have now witnessed the seemingly inevitable stupidity that Big Al had predicted all along.

“As Abraham Lincoln was the noble savior of "the last best hope of earth", namely our Union, so is Barack Obama hope's meanest destroyer. Therein lies, in a nutshell, the strongest and, I may add, the most ironic case against Obama's re-election. The great irony is that, whereas Obama presumes to be the second coming of Abraham Lincoln, he is in fact the personification of the anti-Lincoln.”
— TheBigHenry, September 4, 2012 (hl98.blogspot.com)

Obama's hopey-dopey mantra, also known as the litany of "incorrect promises", is the greatest blight on the Union — ever. This purportedly "most transparent" administration is anything but. It is among the most egregious of his incorrect promises.

This claimed second coming of Lincoln is, in reality, the first coming of the anti-Lincoln. It comprises the greatest polarization of the Union since the Civil War. It could, in fact, initiate a second civil war.

This perfidious Administration has sparked internecine hatred such as has not been witnessed in living memory. Hope and change? Neither. Horseshit and churlishness.
