Purveying Perfidy for Fun and Profit

The race to the top is indistinguishable from the search for the lowest common denominator. In both cases, the goal is worthless.

“State water managers and other experts said Thursday that California is in no danger of running out of water in the next two years, even after an extremely dry January and paltry snowpack. Reservoirs will be replenished by additional snow and rainfall between now and the next rainy season, they said. The state can also draw from other sources, including groundwater supplies, while imposing tougher conservation measures. […]

The headline of a recent Times op-ed article offered a blunt assessment of the situation: 'California has about one year of water left. Will you ration now?'” Jay Famiglietti, senior water scientist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and a professor at UC Irvine, wrote about the state's dwindling water resources in a March 12 column, citing satellite data that have shown sharp declines since 2011 in the total amount of water in snow, rivers, reservoirs, soil and groundwater in California.

In an interview Thursday, Famiglietti said he never claimed that California has only a year of total water supply left. […]

Back in the day, before the 24/7 news cycle, our so-called "paper of record" was the New York Times. If the NYT published it, you could virtually take it to the bank. Back then we also had what was known as a code of honor (moral absolutism), which many (perhaps most) people aspired to. We also had a banking system that paid interest on one's deposits (but that's another issue, albeit not entirely unrelated).

Today we are innundated with: isotropic shitstorms of sensationalism and perfidy; relatively expensive fish wrapper; and, banks that expect to be paid for accepting your deposits. Moreover, as Big Al Einstein fortold, everything is relative, even morality. All of which, of course, raises the question, "How the heck can you differentiate between shit and Shinola?" Truth be told ... but can it be trusted?

We all seek information that is reliable. Whence does it emanate? I submit this is a serious problem in our age of (mis)information. Freedom of information allows us to aggregate it, often free of charge. But verification is much more difficult than ever before. Because, you know — ignorance, perfidy, moral relativism.

Disgusted yet, bitch?

“Liberal regimes have always suffered from this paralyzing antinomy: Liberalism implies openness to other points of view, even those points of view whose success would destroy liberalism. Tolerance to those points of view is a prescription for suicide. Intolerance betrays the fundamental premise of liberalism, i.e. openness. Of course (may I say “of course”?), there is a sense in which the antinomy is illusory, since any robust liberalism, i.e., a liberalism buttressed by a core of conservative backbone, understands that tolerance, if it is to flourish, cannot be synonymous with capitulation to ideas that would exploit tolerance only to destroy it. The “openness” that liberal society rightly cherishes is not a vacuous openness to all points of view: it is not “value neutral.” It need not, indeed it cannot, say Yes to all comers. American democracy, for example, affords its citizens great latitude, but great latitude is not synonymous with the proposition that “anything goes.” Our society, like every society, is founded on particular positive values—the rule of law, for example, respect for the individual, religious freedom, the separation of church and state. Islam in its current configuration denies those values.”
— Roger Kimball, January 9th, 2015 (pjmedia.com)

Ever since its War of Independence (1948), Israel has been pressured by the political Left of the world to open its borders to its neighboring political entities. The latter populations have openly stated their desire for, nay their holy mission in life to be, Israel's complete destruction, along with all the Jews in the world at large. Israel's majority are Ashkenazi Jews. They are not known for their suicidal tendencies, which is how they have survived their haters' wrath for millennia. They know something's rotten in Denmark when they see it (mixed metaphor intentional). Hence, their response to all the Left-leaning Western democracies has been an unwavering, "You first".

Predictably, the foolish Left-leaning Western democracies went first — they opened their borders to the barbarians at the gates. The result of such self-destructive policy may be summarized as The Universal Law of Easily Foreseen Consequences. One well known example of this law is commonly referred to in computing as, "Garbage in; garbage out". As applied to unimaginative immigration policy it may be termed, "Barbarians in; barbarism out".

If this pathetic Leftist saga is ever brought to film (who better than Hollywood to produce such a "blockbuster") a good title for it would be "This Time Will Be Different".

I don't know who the author of the above op-ed article is. More importantly, I don't know what she is talking about. Most importantly, neither does she.

The war that Israel has been engaged in for the past 66 years (and counting) is not a PR war. There have been many misnomered "wars" since media hacks have begun styling themselves "warriors" of words: media wars; political wars; war against cigarettes; war against poverty; war against hunger; war against women; war against old white men; war against whatever ailes you. None of these describe's Israel's war.

Israel and its people are engaged in — and its people have been engaged in since time immemorial — existential war. Existential war is a war that nobody can afford to lose. The losers cease to exist.

The High-Tech Stultification of Our Teens

Consider learning something that is worthy of sharing, first.

[This related source is recommended in its entirety.]

“Enough with complaining that young people these days are addicted to their phones. The question you should be asking is: What do they know that you don't?

Believe it or not, there are advantages to using technology like a teen. I asked a handful of 11- to 17-year-olds to tell me what apps and gear they couldn't live without. They taught me to question my own habits: Why do I use email to talk with friends? Why do I only share my best photos?

Teens are among the most creative users of technology, in part because they don't have adults' assumptions about how things are supposed to work.

'I will just throw away the directions and see what I can make of it', Kapp Singer, a 14-year-old from San Francisco, told me.

Owning a smartphone, often a hand-me-down, means many teens can be pretty much always online, changing how they stay in touch with friends and express themselves.”
— Personal Technology Columnist Geoffrey Fowler, Updated June 10, 2014 (WSJ)

Today's teens are masters of utilizing high tech for communicating with their peers. So what is the problem?

The problem is they spend all their time communicating with their peers. It would be far better, instead, if they spent some time learning something of interest to communicate, besides how to utilize the latest high tech for communication. Our teens have been captured by a stultifying Mobius strip of high-tec communication.

Once these high-tech-savvy communicators "grow up", they will be poised to become the great mass of high-tech consumers. Their only problem then will be to market their own skill set, the same one they share with all their peers, in order to make a living. Unfortunately for them, only their grandma gives a Shinola when they express themselves.

“The oldest known veteran of World War II was honored with a thunderous standing ovation during a ceremony Monday at Arlington National Cemetery, as President Obama and the rest of the nation paid tribute to 107-year-old Richard Overton's service.

[…]

Overton served in the Pacific during World War II, and Obama regaled the audience with his accomplishments. 'He was there at Pearl Harbor when the battleships were still smoldering. He was there at Okinawa. He was there at Iwo Jima', Obama said.

[…]

As the Afghan war comes to a close, Obama said the nation has a responsibility to ensure that the returning troops are the 'best cared-for and best respected veterans in the world'. The country's obligations to those who served 'endure long after the battle ends', he said.”

“What was largely overlooked, however, is that those who were most likely to vote for Barack Obama in 2012 were members of demographic groups most likely to have suffered the steepest income declines. Mr. Obama was re-elected with 51% of the vote. Five demographic groups were crucial to his victory: young voters, single women, those with only a high-school diploma or less, blacks and Hispanics. He cleaned up with 60% of the youth vote, 67% of single women, 93% of blacks, 71% of Hispanics, and 64% of those without a high-school diploma, according to exit polls.

According to the Sentier research, households headed by single women, with and without children present, saw their incomes fall by roughly 7%. Those under age 25 experienced an income decline of 9.6%. Black heads of households saw their income tumble by 10.9%, while Hispanic heads-of-households' income fell 4.5%, slightly more than the national average. The incomes of workers with a high-school diploma or less fell by about 8% (-6.9% for those with less than a high-school diploma and -9.3% for those with only a high-school diploma).

[…]

What all of this means is that the stimulus-led economic revival that began officially in June 2009—Vice President Joe Biden's famous "summer of recovery"—has only resulted in lower incomes for at least half of Americans, the very ones who were instrumental in electing Mr. Obama twice.

The president's announced economic policy goal, as well as that of progressives generally, is to spread the wealth. The left seems to have forgotten that when fewer American businesses and workers are creating wealth in the first place, something else is spread instead: misery.”

Hmmm … What we have here, it would appear, is "failure to communicate," AKA a clusterf*ck. Let us try to untangle this web of deceitfulness woven by Jew-haters the world over (with apologies to Sir Walter Scott ).

Egypt, one of the founding member-states dedicated to the annihilation of Israel, having engaged in four of Israel's existential wars (1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973), has now scolded Turkey's Jew-hating Prime Minister. Turkey, however, was once a long-term holdout from the otherwise ubiquitous bashing of Israel in the Middle East and in the world at large.

Moreover, now that Syria and Iraq are having to deal with internecine warfare, Turkey (a member of NATO mind you) has taken up the slack to keep Jew-hatred on the front burners of humanity's cesspools.

Furthermore, back in the USA, we have a President who is enamored with the Muslim Brotherhood. These Jew-haters were allied with Hitler and his Final Solution for all the world's Jews.

And, to add insult to injury, we have all the self-loathing Jewish-American liberals who fervently, and without remorse, support that President.

Same old vile Jew-hatred, now with a little added irony for your anti-Semitic pleasure.

“Amid all the heated cross-currents of debate about the National Security Agency's massive surveillance program, there is a growing distrust of the Obama administration that makes weighing the costs and benefits of the NSA program itself hard to assess.

The belated recognition of this administration's contempt for the truth, for the American people and for the Constitution of the United States, has been long overdue.

But what if the NSA program has in fact thwarted terrorists and saved many American lives in ways that cannot be revealed publicly?

But we the voters are not blameless. Having chosen an untested man to be president, on the basis of rhetoric, style and symbolism, we have ourselves to blame if we now have only a choice between two potentially tragic fates -- the loss of American lives to terrorism or a further dismantling of our freedoms that has already led many people to ask: 'Is this still America?'”

The Superiority of a Market Economy — in a Nutshell

John Stuart Mill

[This related source is recommended in its entirety.]

“As John Stuart Mill said, back in the 19th century, 'even if a government were superior in intelligence and knowledge to any single individual in the nation, it must be inferior to all the individuals of the nation taken together'.

People competing with each other, and being forced to make mutual accommodations with each other in the marketplace, are operating in a trial and error process.

Human beings are going to make errors in any kind of economic or political system. The question is: Which kind of system punishes errors more quickly, and more effectively, in terms of forcing errors to be corrected?

A market economy with many competitors has incentives and constraints that are the opposite of those in a government monopoly.

Anyone familiar with the economic history of businesses knows that their mistakes have been common and large. But red ink on the bottom line lets them know that they are going to have to shape up or shut down.

Government agencies face no such constraint. The Federal Reserve can keep making the same mistakes in the next hundred years that it made in its first hundred years. Or it can make new and bigger mistakes.

Nor is the Federal Reserve unique. The same thing applies to the Congressional Budget Office and to government agencies on down to the local DMV.

Elected politicians not only can keep making the same mistakes. They have every incentive to deny that they made a mistake in the first place, since such an admission can end their careers.”

Once again, the American font of wisdom and common sense explains why government, in most cases, is the problem.

“In this age of Obama and a corrupting equality of result, we must continue to speak out, with dash and style, with the knowledge that most of our peers prefer sameness and mandated equality to freedom and liberty, if the latter result in inequality. But at least we are not alone, the best of the ancient world nods with us. And that is the point, is it not — to keep the ancient faith and so welcome rather than fear the popular anger of the age?” [emphasis added]
— Victor Davis Hanson, December 17th, 2012 (pjmedia.com)

People ask me, "TheBigHenry, why can't you accept the people's voice, that Obama has been reelected and, therefore, that we should accept the course he has chosen for our Nation? Why must you continue grumbling from the bleachers? Why can't you be nice?"

The short answer is that I prefer freedom and liberty to sameness and mandated equality. And the very short answer is that, "You is what you is, motherf*cker!" But, since this is my blog, and I believe that Obama has not yet managed to abrogate our First Amendment to the Constitution, I will elaborate.

To begin with, "Why can't you be nice?" is a loaded question. What is or isn't nice depends on what your meaning of "nice" is. If, as is frequently the case, your meaning of nice is something akin to obedient, non-confrontational, or, dare I say it, submissive, then my reply is, "F*ck that shite; that's un-American!"

I accept that Obama is my President. I am a law abiding American (I pay my taxes, wear my seat belt, and don't engage in murderous rampage). But I refuse to worship the ground Obama hovers over, because he is, in my considered opinion, the scum de la scum.

Despite the misguided, albeit tyrannical, voice of the majority, Obama is not a nice guy. Obama is your basic Chicago politician, which is to say, a first class thug. Obama is not a genius; that is a patently false myth perpetrated by his malignant advisers. Obama and his obnoxious wife are abusers of the public trust. They are socially uncouth, incredibly narcissistic, and a disgrace to the dignity of our traditional (and, I may add, earned at great cost) American ethos. Obama is also an ignoramus. And worst of all, he doesn't suspect that he is ignorant, because he has surrounded himself with nothing but yes-people.

And these are his best qualities. In four-years' time, we will all know this to be true, to our collective misfortune.

The Arrogance of Ignorance

“A little knowledge is a dangerous thing.”

Jon Stewart
Jon Stewart

There's stupidity. There's willful stupidity. You can't fix either.

We are all born ignorant. Then the race between open-mindedness and arrogance begins. If the former wins, there is hope for the salvation of your ability to reason. The alternative is perpetual willful stupidity.

Arrogance is the catalyst for willfulness, which, in turn, is the superglue that closes the mind permanently and makes it impervious to all contradiction of preconceived notions.

Just to cite a familiar example, consider, if you will, the comedian turned willful idiot Jon Stewart. Although he undoubtedly has a stable of writers, it is clear that he was not born stupid, for he is clearly an attractive personality with a very large following of admirers.

But at some point in his personal development, his arrogance outstripped his ability to consider the possibility that he is full of shit. At that point he became permanently ensconced in willful stupidity, better known as a flaming liberal.

His comedy act has assumed an aura of infallibility on all matters large and small. He has even opined, in recent memory, that President Truman was wrong not to demonstrate (in some non-damaging scenario) the power of the atomic bomb, such that Japan would have surrendered without further ado and without further loss of life.

Of course, such a notion has been definitively debunked numerous times since 1945. But Stewart's willful stupidity shields him from even a hint that he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Although Stewart has created a significantly large block of willful stupidity, a much more damaging figurehead is Barack Obama. His rise to the pinnacle of world power will prove to be, I am sad to conclude, the downfall of us all.
