The Great Washed Generations: Brainwashed and Incurious

Seal of the United States Department of Education

Once upon a time, American children went to school to learn how to live in the real world as adult citizens. Not anymore. Today, the Leftists who conquered American education have replaced schooling's traditional role with their own agenda: brainwash the little people to be incurious useful idiots. Curiosity may have killed the cat, but its absence kills the human spirit.

The results are appalling. The high-school "graduates" don't know how: to read; to write; to make change from a dollar; to be civil; to be accountable for their actions; and, to think for themselves. The Leftist brainwashing in public schools has moulded their pliant little minds to mock anything that was once deemed necessary and proper for a member of civilized society. You see, it is mandatory for these new-age cadres to serve the Leftist elites, by voting, as they have been trained, for the likes of Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. They must not learn how to think for themselves. Their innate curiosity, AKA "poetry and shit", must be stamped out before they leave school.

But it doesn't end there. Not only do they end up engrossed by "reality" TV, Hollywood gossip, and sensationalist garbage at the check-out counter, their incuriosity breeds a dismissive attitude toward anything that dares surface above low-level information. As long as they can learn how to manipulate their latest electronic gadget, they are praised by grandma as little geniuses. They can even program a VCR, dontcha know?

Furthermore, if they want to get a great job, such as a counter-clerk at the local rent-a-car, they'll need a college education. Want some sort of professional career? Got the time and borrowing power for a few more years of graduate school? Got a semblance of curiosity left in you? No? Well then, have a nice life living the American dream, which, BTW, ain't what it used to be. Because political correctness.

Despite all this doom and gloom, however, there is still some hope in humor:
Nancy Pelosi: "We have to pass it, to find out what's in it."
A physician: "That's the definition of a stool sample."

Continuation of politics …

“Here are two points that need to be made again and again in opposition to the willful moral and intellectual obtuseness of liberals and leftists:

1. Dissent is not hate. To dissent from a person's ideas and policies is not to hate the person.

2. As a corollary to #1, to dissent from the ideas and policies of a black man is not to hate the man. A fortiori, it is not to hate the man because he is black.”

— Bill Vallicella, October 07, 2014 (maverickphilosopher.typepad.com)

I agree with Vallicella that that need exists. But I no longer feel compelled to take an active role in its support. It's a cost/benefit analysis, wherein the currency is one's energy of exertion.

I have learned the hard way that it takes an order of magnitude more energy to oppose "the willful moral and intellectual obtuseness of liberals and leftists" than it takes for them to be obtuse. And they will never give in, because to give in is to lose what little self respect they had to begin with.

I am slowly coming to the conclusion that one's energy would be exerted most efficiently in "continuation of politics by other means".

On What Racism Is Not

There's racism. There's not racism. This is not racism.

Liberals would have us believe that racism is the expression of a view that does not strictly align with their leftist worldview. I must unequivocally dissent from such an illiberal viewpoint.

Those of us who do not subscribe to the leftist worldview are of the opinion that our worldview aligns well with what is referred to, in the sane part of the world (admittedly a diminishing arena), as common sense.

Common sense is not racism.

“A top Democratic official conceded Tuesday that the health care overhaul should have been "more precise" in acknowledging the possibility that some Americans would lose their current insurance plans -- even as the White House defended its past statements on the law.

The admission from House Democratic Leader Steny Hoyer comes after a 2010 document emerged that predicted millions might be dropped by their providers.

The document helped explain why thousands are already getting cancellation notices and being guided toward new plans. It also gave new meaning to Nancy Pelosi's infamous remark, shortly before the complex legislation was approved in March 2010, that "we have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it."

Hoyer said Tuesday that officials knew some health plans would not qualify under the new ObamaCare regulations. He said the overall message to the public was accurate -- just not precise enough.”

One man said he'd been "laughing" at Republicans...until his saw his new premiums. Another offered this pitch-perfect distillation of the tension between feel-good liberalism and economic reality: "Of course, I want people to have health care. I just didn't realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally." The law's price and access tremors continue to be felt up and down America's most populous state.”

Can the federal system be fixed? I certainly hope so.

Can this administration be saved?" I fervently hope not.

Why would anyone want to save an administration that, in my opinion, is worse than useless? This administration is malevalent.

And since this Democrat Senate is controlled by the execrable Harry Reed, who is in thrall to this President, the latter can not be convicted in any impeachment proceedings.

So the next best outcome is federal gridlock. What's not to like?

I welcome surceace from obnoxious and incessant political machinations. May the federal shutdown last until the next Presidential election. Amen.

“What was largely overlooked, however, is that those who were most likely to vote for Barack Obama in 2012 were members of demographic groups most likely to have suffered the steepest income declines. Mr. Obama was re-elected with 51% of the vote. Five demographic groups were crucial to his victory: young voters, single women, those with only a high-school diploma or less, blacks and Hispanics. He cleaned up with 60% of the youth vote, 67% of single women, 93% of blacks, 71% of Hispanics, and 64% of those without a high-school diploma, according to exit polls.

According to the Sentier research, households headed by single women, with and without children present, saw their incomes fall by roughly 7%. Those under age 25 experienced an income decline of 9.6%. Black heads of households saw their income tumble by 10.9%, while Hispanic heads-of-households' income fell 4.5%, slightly more than the national average. The incomes of workers with a high-school diploma or less fell by about 8% (-6.9% for those with less than a high-school diploma and -9.3% for those with only a high-school diploma).

[…]

What all of this means is that the stimulus-led economic revival that began officially in June 2009—Vice President Joe Biden's famous "summer of recovery"—has only resulted in lower incomes for at least half of Americans, the very ones who were instrumental in electing Mr. Obama twice.

The president's announced economic policy goal, as well as that of progressives generally, is to spread the wealth. The left seems to have forgotten that when fewer American businesses and workers are creating wealth in the first place, something else is spread instead: misery.”

Got clarity of vision?

Got civilized standards? Got decency?

Related source » Wimps Versus Barbarians 'via Blog this'
[This related source is recommended in its entirety.]

“Just what is it that academics have to fear if they stand up for common decency, instead of letting campus barbarians run amok? At a prestigious college like Swarthmore, every student who trampled on other people's rights could be expelled and there would be plenty of replacement students available to take their places. Although colleges and universities across the country have been giving in to storm trooper tactics ever since the nationwide campus disruptions of the 1960s, not all have. Back in the 1960s, the University of Chicago was a rare exception.

As Professor George J. Stigler, a Nobel Prize winning economist, put it in his memoirs, "our faculty united behind the expulsion of a large number of young barbarians."

The sky did not fall. There was no bloodbath. The University of Chicago was in fact spared some of the worst nonsense that more compliant institutions were permanently saddled with in the years that followed, as a result of their failure of nerve in the 1960s.

[…]

The cost of resistance to the campus barbarians may not have been the only factor. Resistance requires a sense that there is something worth defending. But decades of dumbed-down education have produced people with no sense of the importance of a moral framework within which freedom and civil discourse can flourish.

Without a moral framework, there is nothing left but immediate self-indulgence by some and the path of least resistance by others. Neither can sustain a free society. Disruptive activists indulge their egos in the name of idealism and others cave rather than fight.

It's not just academics who won't defend decency. Trustees could fire college presidents who cave in to storm trooper tactics. Donors could stop donating to institutions that have sold out their principles to appease the campus barbarians. But when nobody is willing to defend civilized standards, the barbarians win.”

The poll -- conducted by Latino Decisions on behalf of pro-reform groups National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund and America's Voice Education Fund -- surveyed 400 undocumented immigrants and found that 87 percent would like to become legal residents and eventually citizens, if they could.”

Yo, what's the problem here? The so-called "undocumented" immigrants really want to be here. All they need is some documentation. For chrissakes, just give 'em some documents. Sheesh!

It's not that complicated. Just give them a green Social Security number. There are millions of them that once belonged to people who are now dead. You can never have enough recycling. Hello?

Then, give them a driver's license. Hell, driving is not that hard; most people can even drive when they're drunk. Might as well give them a passport, too, just in case they want to visit their relatives in the old country.

What's the big deal? These people are already here. Might as well make 'em legal. We don't want millions of illegals running around, do we?

Look at it this way. Some day, one of these illegals could end up being the first or second illegal alien to become the President of the United States.

It could happen.

Hiding in plain sight.

As everyone knows, the answers to some puzzling questions are occasionally right in front of our noses. Enrico Fermi's famous paradox may well be just such a question.

Suppose the extraterrestrials (ET) had already visited Earth; perhaps even as long as a billion years ago, or more. It seems likely that, rather than establishing a permanent colony here, they only stayed long enough to leave a message for some future native intelligence to decipher. How would they safeguard such a message from destruction over potentially extremely long periods of time?

As others have speculated, a prime candidate for such an indestructible medium of information would be DNA, especially the so-called noncoding DNA that, presumably, would be less susceptible to evolutionary alteration. Moreover, in order to maximize the survivability of the ET message, the ET visitors would choose those DNA-vehicles that are the most nearly ubiquitous form of all — bacteria.

Furthermore, the ET would want to insure that such DNA-vehicles were both prolific as well as abhorrent to more evolved species, in order to maximize the survivability of their message carriers.

Which now brings us to the follow-up question for Fermi's paradox: What medium in our biosphere is loaded with bacteria, is ubiquitous, and is universally shunned by sentient beings?

I strongly suspect that it is shit.
