The Staggering Reality of the American Left

Lord have mercy, though, truth be told, we don't deserve it.

“[Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton] have something else in common. They attract the votes of those people who vote for demographic symbolism -- "the first black president" to be followed by "the first woman president" -- and neither to be criticized, lest you be denounced for racism or sexism.

It is staggering that there are sane adults who can vote for someone to be President of the United States as if they are in school, just voting for "most popular boy" or "most popular girl" -- or, worse yet, voting for someone who will give them free stuff.

Whoever holds that office makes decisions involving the life and death of Americans and -- especially if Iran gets a nuclear arsenal -- the life and death of this nation. It took just two nuclear bombs -- neither of them as powerful as those available today -- to get a very tough nation like Japan to surrender.”
— Thomas Sowell | Mar 24, 2015 (townhall.com)

Ever since the Presidential campaign of 2008, my faith in the traditional congeniality of the American people has been eroding. For a complexity of reasons, besides a regression to the meanness of human nature itself, Abraham Lincoln's last best hope for the world has, willingly it seems, relinquished its relative benevelence toward its fellows. The "me; me; me" mentality has steadily gained traction, in real time, as has the self-destructive and concomitant ignorance that continues to pulverise what once comprised the greatness of our unique nation.

In the wake of my faith's erosion, anger at the small–mindedness of our "low-information" voters filled the void, where "low-information" is clearly a euphemism for "ignorant". Recall the short-sightedness of biblical Esau, who sold his birthright to his twin brother Jacob, giving it up for a meal because he was hungry (Genesis 25:29–35:29). In our own time, what good deeds and accomplishments might have followed if not for that miserable little "free meal" — the Obama phone?

Now we are fast approaching another watershed — the 2016 Presidential campaign. Are we going to discard whatever greatness survives the Obama pandemic? Are we going to throw away our American birthright and naturalization for some measly sexist symbolism like "the first woman president"? Will our principal criterion for the Presidency continue to be the absence of male genitalia?

Have we, finally, no gratitude nor decency left as a once-great nation?

“Here are two points that need to be made again and again in opposition to the willful moral and intellectual obtuseness of liberals and leftists:

1. Dissent is not hate. To dissent from a person's ideas and policies is not to hate the person.

2. As a corollary to #1, to dissent from the ideas and policies of a black man is not to hate the man. A fortiori, it is not to hate the man because he is black.”

— Bill Vallicella, October 07, 2014 (maverickphilosopher.typepad.com)

I agree with Vallicella that that need exists. But I no longer feel compelled to take an active role in its support. It's a cost/benefit analysis, wherein the currency is one's energy of exertion.

I have learned the hard way that it takes an order of magnitude more energy to oppose "the willful moral and intellectual obtuseness of liberals and leftists" than it takes for them to be obtuse. And they will never give in, because to give in is to lose what little self respect they had to begin with.

I am slowly coming to the conclusion that one's energy would be exerted most efficiently in "continuation of politics by other means".

“Barack Obama waltzed to victory in California last year, trampling Mitt Romney by 21 percentage points. For many middle class families in the Golden State, Obamacare's chickens are coming home to roost. A few weeks back, we highlighted some priceless quotes from Bay Area residents who are reassessing their views on the president's signature law. One man said he'd been "laughing" at Republicans...until his saw his new premiums. Another offered this pitch-perfect distillation of the tension between feel-good liberalism and economic reality: "Of course, I want people to have health care. I just didn't realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally." The law's price and access tremors continue to be felt up and down America's most populous state.”

“By contrast, another man simply denounced me because of what was said in that column. He did not ask for my sources but simply made contrary assertions, as if his assertions must be correct and therefore mine must be wrong.

He identified himself as a physician, and the claims that he made about guns were claims that had been made years ago in a medical journal -- and thoroughly discredited since then. He might have learned that, if we had engaged in a back and forth discussion, but it was clear from his letter that his goal was not debate but denunciation. That is often the case these days.

It is always amazing how many serious issues are not discussed seriously, but instead simply generate assertions and counter-assertions. On television talk shows, people on opposite sides often just try to shout each other down.”
— Thomas Sowell, May 01, 2013 (townhall.com)

In the broadest sense, thinking can not be obsolete, if for no other reason than that many people think they are thinking when they are merely regurgitating what they have been brainwashed to believe. Such is the state of mind of the mindless masses who think of themselves as liberals.

There is nothing for it but to withdraw from public debate, because real debate is obsolete. It has been subsumed by dueling assertions. We don't need no steenking logic. Henceforth, I will content myself with the occasional soliloquy here (oh, OK, let's dispense with euphemisms — it's a rant) knowing full well it is hopeless to convince anyone on the Left that he is a useful idiot.

I am convinced that the Left has achieved a supermajority that will enable Obamanation to "fundamentally change" our once-great meritocracy into the emerging idiocracy. Whereas our former meritocracy championed the pursuit of happiness for the very people who worship the ground Obama hovers over, namely the less fortunate, the ignorant, even the lazy and/or the stupid, our ascendant idiocracy will drive such losers into a great miasma of government dependency, while the movers and shakers lock-in their wealth and power for the duration. This will leave a dwindling middle class of diehard scrappers who will persevere to maintain a sense of decency, logical thinking, and independence.

Eventually, the miasma of dependency will dissipate via several channels of attrition, including over-consumption of government-cheese, mental retardation, and boredom. Perhaps a small fraction will come to realize that they traded-in their individuality for a stinking Obama-phone, and that it had been a very bad trade. Perhaps an even smaller fraction will muster enough energy to step up to the middle class of those who clung to personal accountability.

“WASHINGTON -- Nearly 90 percent of Latino undocumented immigrants say they would try to become citizens if comprehensive immigration reform went into effect, according to a poll released Monday.

The poll -- conducted by Latino Decisions on behalf of pro-reform groups National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) Educational Fund and America's Voice Education Fund -- surveyed 400 undocumented immigrants and found that 87 percent would like to become legal residents and eventually citizens, if they could.”
— Elise Foley, 04/15/2013 (huffingtonpost.com)

Yo, what's the problem here? The so-called "undocumented" immigrants really want to be here. All they need is some documentation. For chrissakes, just give 'em some documents. Sheesh!

It's not that complicated. Just give them a green Social Security number. There are millions of them that once belonged to people who are now dead. You can never have enough recycling. Hello?

Then, give them a driver's license. Hell, driving is not that hard; most people can even drive when they're drunk. Might as well give them a passport, too, just in case they want to visit their relatives in the old country.

What's the big deal? These people are already here. Might as well make 'em legal. We don't want millions of illegals running around, do we?

Look at it this way. Some day, one of these illegals could end up being the first or second illegal alien to become the President of the United States.

It could happen.

The opinionated schmuck, Jon Stewart, is an ignorant clown and the darling of other self-loathing Jews because, you know — he knows every bias that other schmucks love to have validated for them. The Liberal sheeple need constant reassurance that their feeble-minded bigotry is righteous.

It makes a Liberal very uncomfortable to hear anyone suggest that their monolithic worldview is not the unanimous choice of people who are not convinced that the party-line, passed down for generations, is the Word of Moses himself. Liberals want their party-line straight from the Fraud-in-Chief, who is the embodiment of every major-religion's foremost prophet, if not the Messiah himself. And they want their holy instruction to be pure, free from any possible contradiction they might stumble across, thank you very much.

If this hysterical herding sounds familiar, perhaps you have familiarized yourself with the regimes of other god-like individuals: Lenin; Stalin; Hitler; Mao; Pol Pot, et al., come to mind. They all insisted on a monolithic media/press. It's de rigueur, dontcha know? Don't want to be confusin' the sheeple.

1 In the beginning Govt created the heavens and the earth. 2 Now the economy was formless and void, darkness was over the surface of the ATMs, and the Spirit of Govt was hovering over the land.

3 And Govt said, “Let there be spending,” and there was spending. 4 Govt saw that the spending was good, and that it separated the light from the darkness. 5 Govt called the spending Investments, and this he did in the first day.

“First, most pollsters are missing one ingredient- common sense. Here is my gut instinct. Not one American who voted for McCain 4 years ago will switch to Obama. Not one in all the land. But many millions of people who voted for an unknown Obama 4 years ago are angry, disillusioned, turned off, or scared about the future. Voters know Obama now- and that is a bad harbinger. […] Will anyone in America wake up on election day saying “I didn’t vote for Obama 4 years ago. But he’s done such a fantastic job, I can’t wait to vote for him today.” Does anyone feel that a vote for Obama makes their job more secure? Forget the polls. My gut instincts as a Vegas oddsmaker and common sense small businessman tell me this will be a historic landslide and a world-class repudiation of Obama’s radical and risky socialist agenda. It's Reagan-Carter all over again. But I’ll give Obama credit for one thing- he is living proof that familiarity breeds contempt.”
— Wayne Allyn Root, May 30, 2012 (townhall.com)

Yeah, yeah, I know what your thinking: "What common sense?"

I remember that hippie anthem, "Where Have All the Flowers Gone?", and I sometimes use that melody to hum, "Where has all the common-sense gone?". I think both the flowers and the common sense have been eaten by the hippies themselves. And now they are eating our once-great Nation's future.

Nevertheless, I cling, not to my bibles and my guns (of which latter I have none), but to the one thing I have retained from the Obamanation Administration: hope for change.

Though our electorate as a group seems to behave as junior-high-schoolers voting for their most popular kid for class president, I cling to the hope that, once in the privacy of the voting booth, enough of them will allow themselves to admit that they made a terrible mistake in 2008.

It could happen.

The Perfect Storm of Duplicity

A lying President; his palace-guarding media; and an unconcerned and/or ignorant electorate comprise a perfect-storm of duplicity.

“One of the highly developed talents of President Barack Obama is the ability to say things that are demonstrably false […]. That talent was displayed just this week when he was asked whether he thought the Supreme Court would uphold ObamaCare as constitutional or strike it down as unconstitutional. He replied: "I'm confident that the Supreme Court will not take what would be an unprecedented, extraordinary step of overturning a law that was passed by a strong majority of a democratically elected Congress." […] The Supreme Court has been doing precisely that for 209 years! […] In short, he is simply lying.” [emphasis added]
— Thomas Sowell, Apr 04, 2012 (townhall.com)

The presidential campaign of 2012 is definitely on. We know this unambiguously because Obama's lips have been observed to be moving, which, of course, is indisputable evidence that he is lying. His palace guard of duplicitous media is right there with him, either adding their seal of approval to Obama's duplicity, or remaining silent when it is clear that the perpetually-perplexed electorate has been successfully flummoxed.

When the President/Candidate, his enabling national media, his core-constituency of useful idiots, as well as a largely unconcerned and mostly ignorant electorate, who see no evil, hear no evil, and therefore amplify the evil, we are confronted by a perfect storm of evil duplicity.

I don't really see how this train-wreck can be averted. It is the nearest thing to an unstoppable force in peacetime.

“In sum, there is panic. Obamacare, near-zero interest rates, more environmental and fiscal regulations, government take-overs, bailouts, and stimulus, nearly $5 trillion in debt, $1.6 trillion in annual deficits, vast increases in food stamps and unemployment insurance, and hectoring the private sector—all that and more did not restore prosperity. […] All Obama in 2012 is left with is the old trifecta of ‘Bush did it’, ‘they’ will cut your Social Security, and a subtle racism fuels all opposition. […] Instead, we are left with an energy-poor country sitting on energy riches, a moribund economy with millions in the private sector piling up cash rather than investing or hiring, and cohorts of young, flat-broke, indebted, and politically prepped but poorly schooled students wondering where is the good life and why does a Wall Street fixer, or computer nerd, or company man civil engineer make so much more than they, the anointed, do?”

That so-called "writing on the wall" is not all it's cracked up to be. It has stood for whatever should be obvious to anyone with a modicum of sense. Unfortunately, our disaffected (but not disinfected, unfortunately) youth, having paid for (with their parents' money or via huge sums of personal debt) degrees that aren't worth the paper they're printed on, can't even read with comprehension that proverbial writing on the wall. So they do what they used to do in college when confronted with assignments deemed too difficult and/or too boring to deal with — they "party!"

Back in the day, the college kids of my generation also "partied", though the expression we used was "panty raid". Moreover, though such group activity did tend to get rowdy, we ordinarily confined our exuberance to the vicinity of the girls' dorms. As you can surmise, "back in the day" for me means before co-gender dorms and before the dumbing-down of college degrees to the level previously occupied by high-school diplomas, being mindful that a high-school diploma was then, as it still is now, essentially free of charge.

So what is it that the OWS crowd doesn't get? In essence, they, and as a consequence their parents and other creditors, have been had. And what is worse, they don't even understand that they've been had, because they simply haven't had the type of education that would enable them to think and figure things out for themselves. They have paid enormous fees for the privilege of being treated like mushrooms: kept in the dark about how the real world works and fed bullshit courses like "Black, Latino, gender, green, film, gay, peace, or leisure studies", all marinated in leftist propaganda by the overwhelmingly "progressive" university staff.

So these losers, not that it's all their own fault, though losers they are, nevertheless, party/rage against "those" who committed them to an adulthood without the necessary skills to make a go of it in our twenty-first century socioeconomic environment. And when the harsher seasonal weather sets in, they will have to find a more comfortable venue for expressing their grievances. For the time being, it will most likely be in their parents' basements. And what then? Well, then, there is always more hopey-dopey, mofo.

[This related source is recommended in its entirety.]

“Barack Obama is the most reactionary president in the recent history of the United States. Obama seems intent on turning back the clock to the good old days of the 1960s and 1970s, when rigid political orthodoxy, not an open mind, once guided government. Take the economy. [Please! TBH] The 1980s implosion of communism in Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union proved that state control of the means of production guaranteed poverty and worse. The current insolvent and fragmenting European Union, and the stagnant economics of the exploding Middle East, remind us that state socialism does not work. Why, then, would Obama, in horse-and-buggy fashion, go back to such fossilized concepts as absorbing the nation's health care system, increasing the federal government's role in the economy by taking over automobile corporations, borrowing $5 trillion to spend on new entitlements, or proposing an array of much higher taxes -- all in a vain effort to ensure an equality of result? Almost every key indicator of the current economy -- unemployment, deficits, housing, energy -- argues that Obama's reactionary all-powerful statist approach has only made things far worse. […] "Hope and change" turned out not to be a liberal call to consider new ways of solving problems. It was not even a conservative slogan to keep all that has worked well in the past. Instead, Barack Obama proved to be an old-fashioned reactionary. He hoped to change things back to the politically correct 1960s and 1970s way of doing things -- whether it ever worked or not.” [emphasis added] [interjected by TBH]

The big news in the media today concerns Weiner pulling out, albeit far from prematurely (come to think of it, his father should have). Not surprising, really. It distracts for a few more precious moments from Obama's disastrous administration, if you'll pardon the expression.

The whole news-cycle scenario is reminiscent of the elaborate ghoulish spectacles in the Roman Colosseum as the barbarians were storming the gates. Or, for a more recent analogy, refer to the Wizard of Oz's, "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain". Move along; nothing to see here.

Well, go ahead. Enjoy the spectacle of Weiner letting it all hang out on the "reality is weirder than fiction" stage. The economic string of dominoes is about to chain-react in Greece ... Premonitions of what is to come may be seen in last night's riots in Vancouver and Toronto, over a hockey championship, no less! And, lest you forget, that happened in pseudo-European Canada, not in (supposedly) much less sophisticated real America.

Are we really going to allow the abomination to continue through 2016? Really?
