“[Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton] have something else in common. They attract the votes of those people who vote for demographic symbolism -- "the first black president" to be followed by "the first woman president" -- and neither to be criticized, lest you be denounced for racism or sexism.
It is staggering that there are sane adults who can vote for someone to be President of the United States as if they are in school, just voting for "most popular boy" or "most popular girl" -- or, worse yet, voting for someone who will give them free stuff.
Whoever holds that office makes decisions involving the life and death of Americans and -- especially if Iran gets a nuclear arsenal -- the life and death of this nation. It took just two nuclear bombs -- neither of them as powerful as those available today -- to get a very tough nation like Japan to surrender.”
— Thomas Sowell | Mar 24, 2015 (townhall.com)
Ever since the Presidential campaign of 2008, my faith in the traditional congeniality of the American people has been eroding. For a complexity of reasons, besides a regression to the meanness of human nature itself, Abraham Lincoln's last best hope for the world has, willingly it seems, relinquished its relative benevelence toward its fellows. The "me; me; me" mentality has steadily gained traction, in real time, as has the self-destructive and concomitant ignorance that continues to pulverise what once comprised the greatness of our unique nation.
In the wake of my faith's erosion, anger at the small–mindedness of our "low-information" voters filled the void, where "low-information" is clearly a euphemism for "ignorant". Recall the short-sightedness of biblical Esau, who sold his birthright to his twin brother Jacob, giving it up for a meal because he was hungry (Genesis 25:29–35:29). In our own time, what good deeds and accomplishments might have followed if not for that miserable little "free meal" — the Obama phone?
Now we are fast approaching another watershed — the 2016 Presidential campaign. Are we going to discard whatever greatness survives the Obama pandemic? Are we going to throw away our American birthright and naturalization for some measly sexist symbolism like "the first woman president"? Will our principal criterion for the Presidency continue to be the absence of male genitalia?
Have we, finally, no gratitude nor decency left as a once-great nation?

— Alan M. Dershowitz, January 12, 2015 (gatestoneinstitute.org)
As is his wont, Mr. Dershowitz looks good on paper, as a renowned legal scholar should. But I suspect he is not being entirely ingenuous here. As most knowledgeable people are aware, American academia today is woefully deficient in open-mindedness.
I think that the biggest fly ("the size of a Buick" to quote Woody Allen) in the ointment of idealistic prescriptions is that our very flawed earthly circumstances are ill suited for idealism. And a principal contributor to our world's incongruity with idealism is the imperfectibility of human nature. Read my lips: Evil. Is. Ubiquitous.
Of course, the Golden Rule is one of the finest concepts on record. But in order to survive, let alone fluorish in the real world, you would be well advised to avoid any action that is a threat to your own well being.

“I would add that to understand the Left you must understand that lefties typically leap to the defense of the perceived underdog regardless of what the underdog has done to deserve the treatment he receives. Right and wrong don't come into it. The relative weakness of the underdog is taken to justify his criminality while the decent people who defend themselves are urged, quite absurdly, to show restraint. The terrorist entity, Hamas, whose charter calls for the destruction of the state of Israel, understands this, a fact that lends a bit of sanity to their otherwise insanely self-destructive attack on Israel. They seek the sympathy of the morally obtuse Left. This morally disgusting characteristic of leftists is also illustrated by the recent furor over so-called 'botched executions.' They take the side of the scum of the earth while not even mentioning the suffering of the innocent victims.”

| Матушка Россия Liberty Captain Hopey-Dopey |
As a toddler, my mind's eye saw the glory of a people's indomitable spirit in vanquishing the Nazi invaders of Mother Russia. The sheer magnitude of the Russians' sacrifice and their magnificent determination to survive is virtually incomprehensible today.
Several years later, my child's eyes saw the glory of Anglo-American victory in General Eisenhower's American Occupation Zone. 'With malice toward none, with charity for all', the Lincolnian spirit permeated Western Europe.
A couple of years later, my young eyes saw the glory of American Liberty. With the clothes on our backs and indelible memories of the Allies' victory over Nazi Germany's depravity, our American dream had begun.
During the following decade, my eyes saw the glory of the American pursuit of happiness. Life was good. Truly. Even dreaded polio had been conquered.
And then it began to unravel. The flower children got bored. The greatest expansion of general well-being in recorded history was no longer good enough. The pursuit of happiness became a drag, man. Sex, drugs and rock and roll were where it's at, man. But they had to be free, man. Like, we're not into pursuit, man. That's too much like work, man.
And that ignorant beat goes on to this day. The poster child for that dope-smoking generation of no-accounts is now the putative leader of Western civilization! Lord have mercy.
My eyes have seen depravity. My eyes have seen the magnificent will to survive. My eyes have seen the worst of humanity. My eyes have seen the best of the human spirit.
Alas, I have now witnessed the seemingly inevitable stupidity that Big Al had predicted all along.

One man said he'd been "laughing" at Republicans...until his saw his new premiums. Another offered this pitch-perfect distillation of the tension between feel-good liberalism and economic reality: "Of course, I want people to have health care. I just didn't realize I would be the one who was going to pay for it personally." The law's price and access tremors continue to be felt up and down America's most populous state.”

“What was largely overlooked, however, is that those who were most likely to vote for Barack Obama in 2012 were members of demographic groups most likely to have suffered the steepest income declines. Mr. Obama was re-elected with 51% of the vote. Five demographic groups were crucial to his victory: young voters, single women, those with only a high-school diploma or less, blacks and Hispanics. He cleaned up with 60% of the youth vote, 67% of single women, 93% of blacks, 71% of Hispanics, and 64% of those without a high-school diploma, according to exit polls.
According to the Sentier research, households headed by single women, with and without children present, saw their incomes fall by roughly 7%. Those under age 25 experienced an income decline of 9.6%. Black heads of households saw their income tumble by 10.9%, while Hispanic heads-of-households' income fell 4.5%, slightly more than the national average. The incomes of workers with a high-school diploma or less fell by about 8% (-6.9% for those with less than a high-school diploma and -9.3% for those with only a high-school diploma).
[…]
What all of this means is that the stimulus-led economic revival that began officially in June 2009—Vice President Joe Biden's famous "summer of recovery"—has only resulted in lower incomes for at least half of Americans, the very ones who were instrumental in electing Mr. Obama twice.
The president's announced economic policy goal, as well as that of progressives generally, is to spread the wealth. The left seems to have forgotten that when fewer American businesses and workers are creating wealth in the first place, something else is spread instead: misery.”

Hmmm … What we have here, it would appear, is "failure to communicate," AKA a clusterf*ck. Let us try to untangle this web of deceitfulness woven by Jew-haters the world over (with apologies to Sir Walter Scott ).
Egypt, one of the founding member-states dedicated to the annihilation of Israel, having engaged in four of Israel's existential wars (1948, 1956, 1967, and 1973), has now scolded Turkey's Jew-hating Prime Minister. Turkey, however, was once a long-term holdout from the otherwise ubiquitous bashing of Israel in the Middle East and in the world at large.
Moreover, now that Syria and Iraq are having to deal with internecine warfare, Turkey (a member of NATO mind you) has taken up the slack to keep Jew-hatred on the front burners of humanity's cesspools.
Furthermore, back in the USA, we have a President who is enamored with the Muslim Brotherhood. These Jew-haters were allied with Hitler and his Final Solution for all the world's Jews.
And, to add insult to injury, we have all the self-loathing Jewish-American liberals who fervently, and without remorse, support that President.
Same old vile Jew-hatred, now with a little added irony for your anti-Semitic pleasure.

This could be a tough one to adjudicate. Yes, of course, the fans beheaded the referee and staked his head, in midfield no less. I mean, come on already; in midfield?
The concept of justifiable homicide in criminal law stands on the dividing line between an excuse, justification and an exculpation. It differs from other forms of homicide in that, due to certain circumstances, the homicide is justified as preventing greater harm to innocents. A homicide can only be justified if there is sufficient evidence to suggest that it was reasonable to believe that the offending party posed an imminent threat to the life or wellbeing of another.
— From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Our left-wing loonies are fond of reminding us incessantly about the benefits of multiculturalism. So, for example, in Britain it is not unheard of for a couple of hundred people to be trampled to death when a soccer match goes awry. In Brazil, you have your occasional beheading and staking. But in America, nobody gives a shit about soccer. To each his own.
And, of course, it's not just soccer-related. I am reminded of the story where a baseball player popped out to lose the game for the home-team, and a fan subsequently shot him. His plea? "But your honor, man; there were runners on base!"
Then, there's the story of a bridge player who shot his wife for trumping his ace. His plea? "But your honor; we were vulnerable!"

“There's good. There's not good. This is not good.”
Duplicate bridge is, arguably, the greatest game known to man and, unfortunately, to many vile women as well. It is played the world over by people from all walks of life, including billionaires, youngsters, invalids, the deaf, the legally blind, and some who are certifiably insane. The only requirements for a modicum of success is a functioning brain and a thirst for psychological mayhem. It is, in a word — exhilarating.
And yet, there is also a downside. If you want to observe humanity in action, warts and all, step inside your local bridge club during a typical afternoon game. The self-absorbed ugliness is palpable. Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned? Fuhgeddaboudit. Try giving a menopausal bitch a bad score on a deal. It's fugly, bro.
So why continue to engage, you might wonder. Well, for one thing, competitive bridge is more addictive than crack cocaine (or so I imagine it to be). Once you are hooked on the game, you have to get your weekly (often daily) fix, and people have been known to drive 160 miles round-trip just to play for several hours.
Yes indeed, masochism is alive and well …

“By contrast, another man simply denounced me because of what was said in that column. He did not ask for my sources but simply made contrary assertions, as if his assertions must be correct and therefore mine must be wrong.
He identified himself as a physician, and the claims that he made about guns were claims that had been made years ago in a medical journal -- and thoroughly discredited since then. He might have learned that, if we had engaged in a back and forth discussion, but it was clear from his letter that his goal was not debate but denunciation. That is often the case these days.
It is always amazing how many serious issues are not discussed seriously, but instead simply generate assertions and counter-assertions. On television talk shows, people on opposite sides often just try to shout each other down.”
— Thomas Sowell, May 01, 2013 (townhall.com)
In the broadest sense, thinking can not be obsolete, if for no other reason than that many people think they are thinking when they are merely regurgitating what they have been brainwashed to believe. Such is the state of mind of the mindless masses who think of themselves as liberals.
There is nothing for it but to withdraw from public debate, because real debate is obsolete. It has been subsumed by dueling assertions. We don't need no steenking logic. Henceforth, I will content myself with the occasional soliloquy here (oh, OK, let's dispense with euphemisms — it's a rant) knowing full well it is hopeless to convince anyone on the Left that he is a useful idiot.
I am convinced that the Left has achieved a supermajority that will enable Obamanation to "fundamentally change" our once-great meritocracy into the emerging idiocracy. Whereas our former meritocracy championed the pursuit of happiness for the very people who worship the ground Obama hovers over, namely the less fortunate, the ignorant, even the lazy and/or the stupid, our ascendant idiocracy will drive such losers into a great miasma of government dependency, while the movers and shakers lock-in their wealth and power for the duration. This will leave a dwindling middle class of diehard scrappers who will persevere to maintain a sense of decency, logical thinking, and independence.
Eventually, the miasma of dependency will dissipate via several channels of attrition, including over-consumption of government-cheese, mental retardation, and boredom. Perhaps a small fraction will come to realize that they traded-in their individuality for a stinking Obama-phone, and that it had been a very bad trade. Perhaps an even smaller fraction will muster enough energy to step up to the middle class of those who clung to personal accountability.

Oh the humanity,

poetry and shit,
Vengeance Is Mine,
When reason fails the only thing left is derision,
You talking to me?
Beware that middle finger, Shit-for-Brains!

“That's it. This time they've crossed the line into unimaginative buffoonery. This imaginary volition into indiscribable Gobbledygook is an unimaginative volition of all pretensions to mercilessness and puppetry. The merciless deadliness of imaginariness and blowing smokiness, not to mention the deadly mercilessness of smoking dopiness, will not stand. Now hear this: We will unreasonably and with all due willingness, unforeseen by all the puppetry of former merciless stupidity, proceed with abandon, albeit cautiously and resolutely. The deadly mercilessness will be blown into the far winds of glory, whilst we abandon restraints that have handcuffed the unimaginatively gross puppetry of clowning buffoonery and sleepiness. You catchy my draftiness?”

Alarm in Beersheba +12 Irotim successful
Where have all the righteous gone?Seriously — how can one not admire such indomitable spirit for "a normal" life? Is there, finally, no sense of righteousness, decency, and justice left in the rotting world outside the United (red) States of America and the tiny enclave of righteousness, named Israel?
Long time passing
Where have all the righteous gone?
Long time ago
Where have all the righteous gone?
Gone to Israel every one
When will they ever learn?
When will they ever learn?
— Paraphrasing Where have all the flowers gone?
When, indeed, will the rotting rest of the world ever learn?

It's the envy, stupid!

“What Obama doesn't want to believe is that Islamist thought and, often, actions are endemic through the Muslim world because to believe that would be to acknowledge that there is something systemically wrong with them that could not be blamed on us, the imperialists. Islam is, after all, their religious ideology. Jihad is their conception. Obama will do everything possible not to face this. […] This inability to confront the issue in an honest way has ramifications in Benghazi because, if this problem is not to be taken seriously, then security really isn't necessary. Al-Qaeda died with bin Laden[?] Of course, now obviously, it didn’t. Far from it. In fact, stamping out al-Qaeda is an extraordinarily difficult task because it doesn't really exist like a conventional organization. It is for the most part an ideology and for that reason can metastasize easily under multiple names. Indeed it seems to be constantly metastasizing. So when Obama goes on The View or Letterman he is hiding something far more significant than his choice between Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey. He is hiding his viewpoint on the war of civilizations. It must feel very odd to him as one who grew up in atmosphere that assumed Western civilization was evil, at the same time that [Western] civilization gave him every honor and privilege. Now it’s yet more confusing as he is asked to defend the West against a deeply disturbed ideology that wants to engulf it. Talk about something difficult to explain on The View. Or in a presidential debate. But I submit to you that is what is lurking beneath the debacle in Benghazi.” [emphasis added]

Here it is in a nutshell: The Leftist worldview boils down to the perverted concept that Western enlightenment, which has enabled the almost ubiquitous availability of personal pursuit of happiness, is responsible for the evil outpouring of hatred and destruction in the unenlightened portions of the world. Whereas, it was the suppression of any improvement in the lot of individuals by the corrosive mindset of theocratic despotism from which Western enlightenment had sprung.
When Obama appears on The View or on Letterman, he visually and verbally demonstrates the incredible stupidity that underpins the Leftist worldview. Nevermind the innumerable contributing factors that obscure the kernel at the heart of our society's great divide: free phones; free lunch; free stuff; tax the rich; support illegals; open borders; closed minds; and on and on ad nauseam. The crux of the matter is that those who support Obama have the arrow of causality reversed. It is the backwardness from time immemorial that spawned Western enlightenment, not the reverse. Today's murderous hatefulness of Islamist ideology is based on envy, the deadliest of the seven deadly sins.
Yes Virginia; it is that simple.
