The Square-Root of Evil Is Ignorance

[This related Kindle Book is recommended in its entirety.]
“One of the greatest contributions the Jews made to human progress was to force European culture to come to terms with money and its power. Human societies have always shown an extraordidnary unwillingness to demystify money and see it for what it is — a commodity like any other, whose value is relative. They tend, indeed, to attach absolute values to all commodities — failing to see that the value of a thing varies in time and space [spacetime] — and particularly to money because it has a fixed apparent value [denomination]. They also invest money with special moral overtones. Why did St. Paul lay down, and countless millions thoughtlessly repeat, 'The love of money is the root of all evil'? Why not the love of land or of flocks or horses; or houses or paintings? Or, most of all, the love of power? There is no ascertainable reason why money should be viewed with such opprobrium. Moreover, the moral distinction between money and all other commodities spread over into the notion of investment, making it extraordinarily difficult to construct an ethical framework for saving and economic development. Men bred cattle with honour; they sowed grain and reaped it worthily. But if they made money work for them they were parasites and lived on 'unearned increment', as it came to be termed.” [emphasis added]
— Paul Johnson, History of the Jews
It was the European Jews, excluded from virtually all other means of sustaining themselves, other means that were not restricted to gentiles by Christian doctrine, who made ends meet by lending money for interest. Not exorbitant or unlawful rates of interest [usury], as is habitually and falsely alleged, but some interest for the very real services rendered and risks taken. And, in return for such vital service to European society, the Jews were resented, envied, frequently un-repaid, slandered, hated, and murdered. For many centuries, and counting. Moreover, the hatred has spread beyond European bounds, having attained its dubious status of the universal irrational hatred.

The Jews rationalized the role of money in civilized society and thereby ushered in the concepts of economic theory, becoming bankers and entrepreneurs before those words and concepts had been defined. But those who hated them for such innovations clung to their ignorant world views, the most debilitating (to everyone) and murderous (to Jews exclusively) of which is that acquiring wealth is a zero-sum game. To this day, the conventional ignorance is that Joe Sixpack's financial problems are entirely attributable to the avarice of fat-cat financiers and investors, as if the phenomenal creation of wealth through economic expansion had never occurred.

The only known antidote to such widespread ignorance is education. But in order for education to succeed, society must be persuaded of its inherent value, because it requires time and effort on the part of teachers and pupils. But society tends to take the easy way out when confronted by what are perceived to be challenges without obvious short-term gratifications, especially when there is no shortage of instantly-gratifying alternatives. And so the square-root of evil marches on along its bloody path of destruction.

Have a nice day.

“More reason to doubt that the Obami have a clue about what to do about North Korea. The State Department’s PJ Crowley tweets 'SecClinton talked with Chinese FM Yang today and encouraged Beijing to make clear that North Korea’s behavior is unacceptable'. Is "unacceptable" really the strongest they can do? Or is "unacceptable" (as in 'A nuclear-armed Iran is unacceptable') just diplomat-speak for 'We’re sorry to see X happen'.” [emphasis added]
— JENNIFER RUBIN, 11.28.2010 (commentarymagazine.com)

You know what's really unacceptable? It's the horseshit coming out of the Clinton State Department. Imagine, if you will, Chinese FM Yang telling his counterpart in North Korea, "US Sec. of State Clinton asked me to tell you that your country's behavior is unacceptable." Can you just picture what the North Korean response to that inanity would be? I can not. The "message" is simply too preposterous to imagine.

After writing her book "It Takes a Village", Clinton presumably concluded that it takes a village idiot to conduct American foreign affairs. If The Obama is going to forbid the use of the phrase "war on terror", the least he could do is forbid his administration from ever again using the word "unacceptable", under any circumstances, and under penalty of the harshest possible toilet training.

WTF is going on in this kindergarten administration? Are they trying to defeat our enemies by subjecting them to uncontrollably hysterical laughter? I understand that North Korea and Iran present uniquely complex problems for Western civilization. But appealing to their senses of humor is not a viable solution.

“The increasingly frantic policy gambits can be attributed to the attempt to convince the voters that Obama is not a failed president. If only he can get a deal on — fill in the blank — then he’ll cut the losing streak and regain his political mojo. The theory is as, well, desperate as are the individual schemes. The president’s difficulties stem from his jobs-killing agenda, his misunderstanding of the Middle East and most other foreign policy conflicts, and his inability to relate to voters.”

Hopelessly seeking hope? Desperately seeking calm? Blindly seeking clarity?

You can't squeeze blood from a rock. Why? Because there is no "there" there. When hopey-dopey is finally revealed to be the empty suit that is masquerading as the emperor's new cloths, even children will see that the tooth fairy is the pied piper for deluded free-lunchers. I have said it before, but it bears repeating ad nauseam: There is no free lunch.

The dénouement will not be pretty. Subsequent to the quake of realization, many after-shocks will have to be endured: crushing disappointment; mounting anger; chaotic lashing out, including endless finger-pointing and denials of complicity. Ultimately, if all goes well, sanity will revert to it's rightful place of normalcy. America's meritorious and ethical standards will be embraced once again as the concepts to be proud of. And Sousa's The Stars and Stripes Forever will rise again:

Ecsh explains they got the idea when they received an e-mail from a soldier asking what it took to get the product sent to Iraq.”

By all accounts these are interesting times, in the Chinese sense. Here in America, the greatest country in the world this side of heaven, however, we pause annually to count our blessings. There are always some to count in America, the foremost being our Nation itself.

While atrocities abound all around, including here at home, Americans can, and hopefully most do, take great comfort in knowing that for over two centuries we have persevered to better times.

The Prophet Moses conveyed from the God of Abraham (who was the progenitor of the world's Jews, Christians and Muslims) the concept of hope for a better future. And America was created and continues to be sustained by that concept.

Happy Thanksgiving, all y'all.

Without appropriate media sourcing, deliverables are forced to become seamless, open-source, reconfigurable. We pride ourselves not only on our functionality, but our newbie-proof administration and non-complex configuration. What does the term "research and development" really mean? We apply the proverb "All that glitters is not gold" not only to our biometrics but our ability to reinvent. If all of this sounds disorienting to you, that's because it is!

Without well-chosen interfaces, cross-platform, 24/7 mindshare are forced to become turn-key. Is it more important for something to be 60/60/24/7/365 or to be bleeding-edge? If you actualize proactively, you may have to optimize intuitively. Imagine a combination of J2EE and IIS. We here at Remembrance in Spacetime understand that it is better to visualize holistically than to integrate super-macro-virally. What do we extend? “By bowing to Ankara's demand to omit Iran, Syria and their ballistic missiles as a threat from the NATO agreement to establish a missile shield base in Turkey, President Barak Obama has devalued any US security guarantees offered Israel - as well as negating the facility's avowed purpose. The missile shield and its location in Europe were conceived in the first place for detecting and defusing Iranian and Syrian ballistic missiles before they reached Europe or the United States. "For the first time we've agreed to develop a missile defense capability that is strong enough to cover all Nato European territory and populations as well as the United States," Obama declared Friday, Nov. 19, at the NATO summit in Lisbon. The US president did not say against whom or what. Neither did he reveal the full scope of US and NATO's surrender to Turkey.”

Here's a new parlor-game steeped in gallows humor: "Guess The Obama's Game Plan!" At a friendly gathering of friends and acquaintances, someone reads a recent news story about The Obama's international doings, and everyone tries to figure out what He is trying to accomplish. Whoever comes up with a plausible explanation for what at first blush appears to be completely pointless from the standpoint of American interests wins the game.

I can't figure out if we are witnessing a reenactment of "The Obamperor's New Clothes" or "The New Saga of an Empty Suit". Despite frantic assurances of The Obama's brilliance, from the likes of Valerie Jarrett and Joe "BFD" Biden, I can not for the life of me discern whether This Obamperor knows how to organize a community, let alone a meaningful agreement among member-nations of the NATO alliance.

Another day, another atrocity in the making for our Dunce-in-Chief. What a revolting development.

Holland leads a fleet of 16 state-of-the-art helicopters that make up the aviation assets used by the Texas DPS to fight Mexican drug cartels. […] And now that there is added pressure on the cartels, the drug runners are employing new techniques, known as a splash down. When the heat is on, they attempt to return to Mexico with the drugs, often times in broad daylight. And because the Texas law enforcement’s authority ends at the border -- in this case the river -- they even have time to put on their life jackets. […] President Barack Obama and Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano have recently said the Mexican border is more secure now than it has been in 20 years, but some along this border strongly disagree. 'To suggest the southwest border is secure is ridiculous', said Holland.”

Not only are The Obama's and the Homeland-Security Secretary's pronouncements ridiculous, they border on mendacious propaganda. This administration is little more than a propaganda machine pandering to the vast no-account appetite for free-lunch. The main objective is not to abide by the Presidential Oath of Office but to ensure The Obama's re-election.

His perpetual campaign labors to not only "keep blacks on the plantation" but also to promote general amnesty for illegals so as to build a second indentured voting base for His leftist ideology. That is the raison d'être of The Obama/Napolitano border mendacity.

Furthermore, His Middle-East strategy is designed to ingratiate Himself to radical Islam, so as to establish the third leg of His block-voting horde, the America-haters and/or the Jew-haters. On the Ethical Acquisition and Efficient Consumption of Bacon

A cooked rasher. Raw bacon rashers are an esse...Image via Wikipedia
What is the meaning of life? Nobody really knows, but many (most?) people have an opinion. Moreover, is that question itself meaningful, and if so, is it the most fundamental question one can ask about life? I think not. I think more fundamental would be to ask, "WTF is life?", assuming Bill Clinton has the decency to define what the meaning of "is" is.

Given that "What is life?" is a fundamental question, perhaps we should inquire about some of life's most prominent attributes? Well, I think we can agree that, fundamentally, life is a natural process of finite duration (for every instance that is not "supernatural"). If so, then I think it is worth asking, "How should one evaluate the quality of one's life?"

To the extent that one can affect the course of one's life process, it seems clear that a useful guideline would be to optimize one's own quality of life. Naturally, this begs the question, "How can one evaluate quantitatively the quality (or net worth) of one's life"? I am quite confident that one size does not fit all, so to speak.

It seems to me one must begin by identifying one's own personal "currency" for the evaluation of one's own quality of life. For the sake of this inquiry, I choose bacon, which at least half the world's population can agree on as a worthwhile currency. Others will probably choose something like "wine, women, and song". Preferably, one would include all of the foregoing as different denominations for the quality-of-life currency.

Although an appropriate currency is necessary, it is not sufficient for the evaluation of a life well lived. As the saying goes, "It's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game that counts", though that, I think, is an overstatement. Winning isn't everything, nor is it the only thing, but it does count for something. Nevertheless, though my focus here is on self-evaluation, one can not lose sight of the reality that no man is an island, the quantity of available resources is finite, and ethical standards must be considered for the greater good. Wisdom that has withstood the test of time is Hillel's Golden Rule.

With that in mind, what does our guideline require us to do about our lives?
    Two things:
  1. Acquire as much bacon as you might enjoy, with the understanding that "bacon" is a placeholder for whatever commodity and/or achievement floats your boat.
  2. Consume the bacon that you manage to acquire as efficiently as you can (i.e., don't waste any).
Tomorrow, if time permits, we will discuss how to go about cornering the commodities market on bacon.

Least-Cost Analysis

[This related article is recommended in its entirety.]
“But as much as Oslo has been completely discredited by the Palestinians’ refusal to make peace, Netanyahu cannot afford to act as if the desire of the United States to pursue another round of peace talks is irrelevant. President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton may be among the last people on Planet Earth to fail to understand that Palestinian Authority leader Mahmoud Abbas has neither the will nor the interest in signing a peace accord, no matter where Israel’s borders are drawn. Their decision — to hound Netanyahu to renew the freeze for 90 days even after a 10-month freeze was ignored by the Palestinians — is an absurd policy that mires the administration in a dead-end process that can win them no laurels and few thanks from a Muslim world that Obama is still clearly interested in appeasing. […] [Nevertheless,] Netanyahu must live with a situation where his only ally-state is led by a man who is still uncomfortable with Israel and unwilling to abandon his hubristic belief that he can succeed in making peace where all who have gone before him have failed. Obama has another two years left in his current term and 12 months or so before the requirements of his quest for re-election may serve to deter him from further putting the screws to Israel. During this period, Netanyahu may face a decision about whether Israel will strike at Iran’s nuclear project. Another war with Hezbollah in Lebanon or Hamas in Gaza may also be forced upon the Jewish state during this time frame. There are no guarantees that this concession, like all those made by Israel before this, will strengthen Israel’s hand in gaining support for its right of self-defense, but doing so will surely make it easier for Israel to make its case before the American people, especially at a time when the White House must be considered essentially unfriendly to Jerusalem. Under the circumstances, Netanyahu cannot be blamed for deciding that giving in on the freeze — when it is obvious that the Palestinians will not take advantage of the opening — is the lesser of two evils.”
— JONATHAN S. TOBIN, 11.15.2010 (commentarymagazine.com)

I concur with Jonathan Tobin's "least cost analysis". Lesser (or least) of two (or more) evils; rock and a hard place; freeze (settlement-building) or chill (already-cold relations with Obama); it's the mother of all chess-games for Netanyahu's Israel.

The three things Israel can never forget are:
  1. The Holocaust;
  2. Israel can not lose a war against any of its murderous enemies, for that would lead to its annihilation;
  3. if Israel is annihilated, every Jew in the diaspora will be at the mercy of Jew-haters the world over.

I am confident that Netanyahu, the Israeli-born son of Polish-Ashkenazi Jews who emigrated to Israel before the Holocaust, never forgets the stakes of his least-cost analysis. I am also confident that he understands and factors into his calculations the fact that, relative to Israel's stakes, Obama (et al.) and the Arabs (et al.) are playing for trivial stakes — Obama for his ego and the Arabs for a chance, however slim, to drive the Jews into the sea.

As anyone who has been exposed to elementary economics knows, people respond to incentives. Who do you think has the greatest incentive to survive this 3-way chess game? I am quite confident that it's Benjamin Netanyahu.

It's the trust, stupid

[This related article is recommended in its entirety.]
“To witness Keith Olbermann - the most opinionated among MSNBC's left-leaning, Fox-baiting, money-generating hosts - suspended even briefly last week for making financial contributions to Democratic political candidates, seemed like a whimsical, arcane holdover from a long-gone era of television journalism, when the networks considered the collection and dissemination of substantive and unbiased news to be a public trust. Back then, a policy against political contributions would have aimed to avoid even the appearance of partisanship. But today, when Olbermann draws more than 1 million like-minded viewers to his program every night precisely because he is avowedly, unabashedly and monotonously partisan, it is not clear what misdemeanor his donations constituted. […] We live now in a cable news universe that celebrates the opinions of Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Chris Matthews, Glenn Beck, Sean Hannity and Bill O'Reilly - individuals who hold up the twin pillars of political partisanship and who are encouraged to do so by their parent organizations because their brand of analysis and commentary is highly profitable. The commercial success of both Fox News and MSNBC is a source of nonpartisan sadness for me. […] Daniel Patrick Moynihan's oft-quoted observation that "everyone is entitled to his own opinion, but not his own facts," seems almost quaint in an environment that flaunts opinions as though they were facts.” [emphasis added]
— Ted Koppel, November 14, 2010 (washingtonpost.com)

Yes, yes, of course: truth, fiction, fact, opinion, spin, and anti-spin are all in play when considering the big-money game of political news. Ultimately, however, it's all about trust! Whose version of the news is the least untrustworthy? That criterion is a double negative, but it's the only effective positive that really counts in this murky, ax-grinding world we live in. Were it Hamlet's world, that would have been The Question.

I have no problem trusting Olbermann, Maddow, and Matthews as much as, if not more than, Beck, Hannity, and O'Reilly. Surprised? Don't be. I hardly ever watch any of them, let alone accept what any of them say. I have full faith and trust in their political biases and their ulterior motives. I am well aware of whose oxen have been gored.

The so-called "mainstream news people", however, are a much more devious group. They all purport to be journalists, to whom one attributes certain standards of veracity and political neutrality, but few of whom, I daresay, adhere to or even aspire to. All of them, to varying extent, diverge from disseminating "factual" information as they know it to be; it really can't be helped. It's human nature to prevaricate, because it's a survival disadvantage not to do so.

And so, even Ted Koppel can't avoid a certain spin in what he presents as a seemingly even-handed comparison between left-leaning MSNBC and right-leaning Fox News. If, for example, you weigh not only what he says but also what he omits saying, you will discover that he implies, by omission of Bret Baier's "Special Report" evening news hour, that Fox News comprises only what Koppel terms to be the "cable news universe that celebrates the opinions" of the likes of those celebrity commentators he does mention. Nevertheless, Bret Baier's "Special Report", with the exception of its "Fox All-stars" commentary segment (which, by the way, frequently includes Juan Williams' commentary as well as that of Charles Krauthammer), is every bit as "mainstream" as its counterparts on NBC, CBS, and ABC, all of which latter tend to be noticeably left-leaning.

So, what is the poor news consumer to do? I submit one needs to search for the news sources one can trust, with full knowledge of the impossibility of complete trust, to present the news at the sources' acknowledged as well as its perceived level of spin, AKA bias.

And if the news you receive is of particular importance to you, trust but verify.

“In recent days, [Obama] has offered differing visions of how he might approach the country's problems. At one point, he spoke of the need for "mid-course corrections." At another, he expressed a desire to take ideas from both sides of the aisle. And before this month's midterm elections, he said he believed that the next two years would involve "hand-to-hand combat" with Republicans, whom he also referred to as "enemies." […] This is a critical moment for the country. […] Under these circumstances, Obama has the opportunity to seize the high ground and the imagination of the nation once again, and to galvanize the public for the hard decisions that must be made. The only way he can do so, though, is by putting national interests ahead of personal or political ones. To that end, we believe Obama should announce immediately that he will not be a candidate for reelection in 2012. If the president goes down the reelection road, we are guaranteed two years of political gridlock at a time when we can ill afford it. But by explicitly saying he will be a one-term president, Obama can deliver on his central campaign promise of 2008, draining the poison from our culture of polarization and ending the resentment and division that have eroded our national identity and common purpose. […] [T]he drubbing the Democrats took was certainly a vote of no confidence in Obama and his party. The president has almost no credibility left with Republicans and little with independents. […] Obama himself once said to Diane Sawyer: "I'd rather be a really good one-term president than a mediocre two-term president." He now has the chance to deliver on that idea. […] And for Democrats such as current Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) - who has said that entitlement reform is dead on arrival - the president's new posture would make it much harder to be inflexible. Given the influence of special interests on the Democratic Party, Obama would be much more effective as a figure who could remain above the political fray. […] We have both advised presidents facing great national crises and have seen challenges from inside the Oval Office. We are convinced that if Obama immediately declares his intention not to run for reelection, he will be able to unite the country, provide national and international leadership, escape the hold of the left, isolate the right and achieve results that would be otherwise unachievable.” [emphasis added]
— Douglas E. Schoen ( a pollster and senior adviser to President Jimmy Carter) and Patrick H. Caddell (a pollster for President Bill Clinton), November 14, 2010 (washingtonpost.com)

Nice idea. Unfortunately, there's not a snowball's chance in hell ...

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it would still be a partisan party animal. Obama "putting national interests ahead of personal or political ones"? Our Narcissist-in-Chief? ROTFLMAO!

"He will not be a candidate for reelection in 2012"? What is that thing about "a pig's eye"? Even the eye of a pig wearing lipstick? Break me a fecking give ...

BTW, "gridlock at a time when we can ill afford it" is Democrat BS. This is precisely the time when we desperately need gridlock. The American people need respite from Democrat insanity, now more than ever before.

"Draining the poison from our culture of polarization" and "ending the resentment and division that have eroded our national identity and common purpose" are laudable goals, of course. But as a consequence of the actions of the most divisive President in our Nation's history? ROTFLMAO!

Civilized Leadership Among Civilized Nations

Enlightened leadership to be envied!

[This related article is recommended in its entirety.]
“History teaches us that anti-Semitism is a tenacious and particularly dangerous form of hatred. And recent events are demonstrating that this hatred is now in resurgence throughout the world. That is why the work of the Inter-parliamentary Coalition for Combating Antisemitism has never been so important or timely as it is now. On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I commend you and support you in the great and important work that you are doing. […] In Kiev I laid a wreath at Babi Yar, the site of one of the numerous atrocities of the Holocaust. I was left there with much the same impression as I had in Auschwitz in 2008 — that such horrors defy all comprehension. […] I knew I was standing in a place where evil — evil at its most cruel, obscene, and grotesque — had been unleashed. But while evil of this magnitude may be unfathomable […] it is a fact of our nature — that humans can choose to be inhuman. This is the paradox of freedom. That awesome power, that grave responsibility — to choose between good and evil. […] Let us not forget that even in the darkest hours of the Holocaust, men were free to choose good. And some did. That is the eternal witness of the Righteous Among the Nations. And let us not forget that even now, there are those who would choose evil and would launch another Holocaust, if left unchecked. That is the challenge before us today. […] Yet, in contemporary debates that influence the fate of the Jewish homeland, unfortunately, there are those who reject the language of good and evil. They say that the situation is not black and white, that we mustn’t choose sides. […] In response to this resurgence of moral ambivalence on these issues, we must speak clearly. […] Jews today in many parts of the world and many different settings are increasingly subjected to vandalism, threats, slurs, and just plain, old-fashioned lies. […] Anti-Semitism has gained a place at our universities, where at times it is not the mob who are removed, but the Jewish students under attack. And, under the shadow of a hateful ideology with global ambitions, one which targets the Jewish homeland as a scapegoat, Jews are savagely attacked around the world, such as, most appallingly, in Mumbai in 2008. One ruthless champion of that ideology brazenly threatens to ‘wipe Israel off the map,’ and time and again flouts the obligations that his country has taken under international treaties. […] We have seen all this before. And we have no excuse to be complacent. In fact we have a duty to take action. And for all of us, that starts at home. […] And friends, I say this not just because it is the right thing to do, but because history shows us, and the ideology of the anti-Israeli mob tells us all too well if we listen to it, that those who threaten the existence of the Jewish people are a threat to all of us. Earlier I noted the paradox of freedom. It is freedom that makes us human. Whether it leads to heroism or depravity depends on how we use it. As the spectre of anti-Semitism spreads, our responsibility becomes increasingly clear. We are citizens of free countries. We have the right, and therefore the obligation, to speak out and to act. We are free citizens, but also the elected representatives of free peoples. We have a solemn duty to defend the vulnerable, to challenge the aggressor, to protect and promote human rights, human dignity, at home and abroad. None of us really knows whether we would choose to do good, in the extreme circumstances of the Righteous. But we do know there are those today who would choose to do evil, if they are so permitted. Thus, we must use our freedom now, and confront them and their anti-Semitism at every turn.”
— Prime Minister Stephen Harper - CJC.ca, November 9th, 2010 (israelunitycoalition.org)

Why can't the United States of America have an enlightened leader, instead of a two-bit partisan hack? Why can't the millions of the latter's supporters see through his faux enlightenment — just a cynical pose to camouflage his own bigotry? Why must this great and generous American people struggle so hard to delegate power to a worthy leadership?

It's the eternal lament, "Why do bad things happen to good people?" I suspect that part of the answer is bound-up with the very characteristics of good and evil.

Whereas evil is imbued with aggression, good tends to passivity. Evil is offense; good is defense. Evil is active; good is reactive. Evil is destructive, which is relatively easy; good is creative, which is relatively difficult. Evil is violent nature; good needs to be nurtured. Evil is entropy, ever pushing toward chaos; good is gravity, ever pulling toward order.

The latest cosmological evidence suggests that entropy is winning its battle with gravity. But even if the ultimate fate of the universe is thermodynamic heat death, I believe that humanity has the moral obligation to strive against the forces of evil.

What else could possibly give meaning to life?

A Clue for the ACLU

[This related article is recommended in its entirety.]
“The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) […] questions the president's right to sanction a Predator attack on an American citizen. The fact [that] Awlaki is voluntarily engaged in hostilities against the U.S. under the aegis of an enemy power gives the ACLU little pause. One hyperbolic ACLU lawyer claims Obama is "imposing the death penalty without trial." The claim is sophistry masquerading as sophistication. If all the world were a courtroom, where the decisive weapons are precedent, persuasive arguments and subpoenas, the ACLU might have a case -- if Awlaki's father has legal standing, which is doubtful. Earth, however, is populated by people who have profound disagreements over values that undergird the most basic laws. The civilized are willing to negotiate those disagreements. Barbarians like Awlaki are different. They will murder Molly Norrises en masse to impose their will. The barbarians are outlaws.” [emphasis added]
— Austin Bay, 2010/11/10 (townhall.com)

The ACLU's stated mission is "to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States". A noble cause, indeed. As such, the organization tends to focus its activities in support of the Bill of Rights, that portion of the Constitution (its first ten Amendments) that was co-ratified with its main Sections, ostensibly to protect Americans from the tyranny of the majority. A very noble cause, in principle.

Unfortunately, human endeavor in the real world (as opposed to the lefty unicorn world) has a strong tendency to devolve principle into zealotry. And so the ACLU has devolved into a zoo of zealots, whose proactive stance is indistinguishable from a collective tyranny of the leftist minority.

Everyone, with the exception of the self-righteous elitists, can agree that tyranny is bad. I submit, however, that the tyranny of the minority is worse than that of the majority, and worst of all is the tyranny of an oligarchy or of an individual tyrant.

It is all well and good to defend the rights of the accused, for instance, for it is well known that significant numbers of accused can be, and frequently are, found to be not guilty. But when the rights of the accused are defended to the exclusion of the rights of the aggrieved, there results de facto tyranny of the minority, AKA the ACLU.

“President Obama told 60 Minutes […] “Part of my promise to the American people when I was elected was to maintain the kind of tone that says we can disagree without being disagreeable. And I think over the course of two years there have been times where I’ve slipped on that commitment.” There certainly have been. And [his] comparison to Boehner and McConnell is hardly apt; they have been far more careful in their rhetoric against Obama and Democrats than Obama and Democrats have been against Republicans. […] Here I suppose it’s worth bearing in mind a modern proverb: Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me twice; shame on me.”
— PETER WEHNER - 11.09.2010 (commentarymagazine.com)

The only "slip" made by the Chutzpah-in-Chief during His "interview" on 60 Minutes is in not having appended the gratuitous, "Next time it will be different". I presume that would be the change we could all believe in (as if ...).

Here's one for The Obama's enemies (i.e., anyone who disagrees with Him) to keep in mind: "Fool me once — shame on you; fool me twice — shame on me; fool me again — no more Mr. Nice Guy, mofo Your Agreeableness."

“All the Obama “smart” diplomats can do is repeat the fundamental error in their approach to peace talks. “The United States is ‘deeply disappointed’ that Israel has advanced plans to build 1,345 new homes in ’sensitive areas’ of east Jerusalem, a State Department spokesman [PJ Crowley] said Monday. […] Are all the Democratic pro-Israel Jews “deeply disappointed” in Obama yet? Hardly. Sigh.”
— JENNIFER RUBIN - 11.09.2010 (commentarymagazine.com)

I second Ms. Rubin's "sigh". Democratic Jews have taken stiff-necked intractability to new heights of self abuse.

Moses, in all his brilliance, made two big mistakes:
  1. He chose for the chosen people that side of the Jordan River without all the oil.
  2. He led his followers around barren Sinai for 40 years, which was insufficient time to get all of the stiff-necks out of the chosen people's gene pool.

Obama right on India … what are the odds?

[This related article is recommended in its entirety.]
“It is a natural alignment not only of strategic interests (both the U.S. and India worry about the spread of militant Islam and the rise of China) but also of ideals, since both countries are liberal democracies. That is something that George W. Bush recognized early on, and that Obama is now starting to grasp. Like all other important American alliances, it is a bipartisan relationship that can and should be nurtured regardless of which party is in power in Washington.”
— MAX BOOT - 11.08.2010 (commentarymagazine.com)

Ordinarily, when Obama starts paying attention to you, it is time to secure your wallet. But it appears that his attention vis a vis India may actually be legitimate for both our countries' mutual benefit! What are the odds The Obama has had an epiphany in the wake of last week's election, namely that His Greatness Has the sworn obligation to act in the best interests of the United States?

Yes, I have been, and I continue to be, a harsh critic of The Obama's motives, which I believe never stray very far from the interests of Número Uno, AKA The One. But even a blind squirrel will stumble upon an acorn now and then, and it is not impossible that on rare occasion The Obama's personal interests will coincide with those of the United States.

Anyway, I applaud The President's attempts at fostering closer ties with India, a major player in the community of legitimate nation-states and a future economic power to rival America, China, Japan, and a handful of others.

The following is not likely to happen any time soon (certainly not while Obama is in charge), but it occurs to me that, whereas Joe "BFD" Biden's assurances of "unwavering support" for the the State of Israel aren't worth the hot air that conveys them, a similar "pie-in-the-sky" dramatic gesture by The President, calling for Israel to be granted a permanent seat on the UN Security Council, would go a long way toward reassuring Israel (at least in spirit), and put the fear of god into those who seek its annihilation. Just a random thought ...
