But then I don’t know why Jerusalem is a divided city and Nicosia is not; or why the Kurile Islands or East Prussia are not similarly said to be “occupied”; or why the fence in Israel is worse than the fence in Saudi Arabia.”

And the name of this "Kingdom of Lies" is "Propaganda". There have been numerous practitioners of propaganda throughout history. The Obama and his crew of Chicago-style thugs are certainly not unique; but they are well versed in propaganda's principles and they are very thorough. Hope and change? Yeah, right. As if ...
As Dr. Gregory House is fond of saying, "Everybody lies". But the "cognitive elite in government, journalism, the arts, and the universities", which Prof. Hanson speaks of, lie all the time. You see, boys and girls, they have a worldview to adhere to and perpetuate. And the only way to accomplish that difficult task is to perpetrate continual lying about everything. As that peddler of refried horseshit, Al Gore, made perfectly clear, the truth is basically inconvenient if you are trying to con people. That's why the leftists lie — all the time and even in plain sight.
There is another certainty to be added to death and taxes, namely propaganda. And unless people learn to think for themselves they will continue to be treated like mushrooms.
