Symantec security researcher Liam O Murchu says he found the "05091979″ date in the Stuxnet code, a possible link to the May 9, 1979 execution of Jewish Iranian businessman and philantropist Habib Elghanian. I enjoy a little dabbling in numerology now and again, like any other guy. So I googled "May 9, 1979", and guess what else happened on that awe-inspiring day in history?
That's right, a bombing by the "Unabomber," Ted Kaczynski, injured a graduate student at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois!
Coincidence? I don't think so. Think about it: Unabomber; cyber-warfare; Ted Kaczynski; I'madinnerjacket; insanity; unsanitary; ... The list of similarities is endless.
If this scenario does not mesh well with your politics, think of it as an instance of impedance mismatch. Look for a better clue.
It shouldn't be too hard to find a character string in the malware, which will prove conclusively that not only is Elvis alive and well, but also that he has mastered the art of cyber warfare during his long hiatus from rock and roll.
If all else fails, there's always, "Blame Boooooosh!".
