The Constitution of the United States of America

The most precious document of civilized humanity, by civilized humanity, for civilized humanity, extant.

“Perhaps the stupidest idea given an airing in a recent edition of The New York Times is Prof. Louis Michael Seidman’s opinion, 'Let’s Give Up on the Constitution'.

According to his commentary, Prof. Seidman has "taught constitutional law for almost 40 years" and he was "ashamed" it took him that long to conclude that it was an outdated, "bizarre" document.

Apparently, President Obama, who was a lecturer in constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School, arrived at that conclusion more swiftly. His disregard for the Constitution recently got a slap down from the courts that ruled his recess appointments to the labor relations board were unconstitutional insofar as the Senate was not in recess.

I am not a constitutional scholar, but it should be self-evident that the oldest living constitution in the world has served to create and maintain the greatest republic in the world. Prof. Seidman asserts that Americans have “an obsession” with the Constitution and that is a very good thing indeed. Without it, we would likely have fallen prey to tyranny.

[…]

The argument that the Constitution is an outdated document ignores the fact that it has been amended twenty-seven times and remains the gold standard of law in America.

There are many enemies of freedom and Prof. Seidman’s opinion is just one example, a reflection of the way some intellectuals hold the rest of us in contempt.

One of the greatest plagues on mankind was the notion of communism, the product of Karl Marx’s hatred of private property — the keystone of the Constitution — and the view that people should be seen as a collective, not as individuals. The Constitution affirms that the power of government resides in "the people" who, as individuals, determine who shall "represent" them and are to be protected against the arrogance of power that spawns the inclination to "rule" rather than represent.

The Framers of the Constitution understood this. It is the only thing that stands between us and a tyrannical government run by Progressives, Liberals, and Marxists.”

Let's get one thing straight from the get-go: Prof. Seidman should be ashamed it took him 40 years to conclude that he was an irredeemable ignoramus.

The Constitution is the centerpiece of what Mortimer J. Adler called the "the American Testament", comprising the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States, and Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, in which Lincoln defended the Declaration and the Constitution. In my opinion, Dr. Adler's book "We Hold These Truths" qualifies as the American citizen's testament, which deserves a place of honor on every American's bedside table.

Like Dr. Caruba, I am not a constitutional scholar either. But I would wager that, like many proud Americans, Dr. Caruba and I have a singular appreciation for the unique excellence of the Constitution and the ideals it embodies. Unlike the phony scholars Seidman and Obama himself, who denigrate and desecrate this most enlightening treasure of our unique Republic, Americans who have not succumbed to the "progressive" insanity currently holding our Nation in thrall, understand that the Presidential Oath of Office obligates every President to "preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States". Every decent American should be offended, nay outraged, that Barack Hussein Obama is not only in contempt of his Oath of Office, but he is, in fact, attempting to circumvent the Constitution at every opportunity.

The people of the United States appear to be, in large part, unaware that their fortune and their sacred honor is under insidious attack by the very people who have been entrusted to defend them. The President, the Vice President, the President's Cabinet Officers, half the Supreme Court, the Majority Leader of the Senate, the Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, the majority of the mainstream media, and millions of progressive liberals, not to mention the tens of millions of intellectual midgets (including many of the aforementioned) are all trying to destroy what the Framers, President Lincoln, and millions of patriotic Americans lived and died for.

Don't let the bastards get away with it.
