The Consummate Feedback Automaton

{link » Negative Feedback}
“In a negative feedback system some factor, such as blood pressure, changes. The change is detected by a sensor. The sensor sends a message to an integrating center which in turn stimulates an effector. The effector will do something to alter the factor that changed.”
Principles? We don't need no stinkin' principles!

The Obama Administration has been hard to figure out: Do they know what they are doing? Are they Liberals or Centrists? Are they Capitalists or Socialists? Are they trying to do what's best for the Nation or please everyone else who mostly want us to fail? Do they have a coherent strategy based on a set of sociopolitical principles, or simply making it up on the fly? WTF is going on?

Well, in my humble opinion, they are simply doing what they do best. They are campaigning. Why try to fix it if it ain't broke? Promise the voters whatever they want to hear and act accordingly. If that creates an uproar of dissent, they make a negative adjustment and see who salutes as they run it up the flag pole. Flip-flop? Not really, and even if so, it shows they are just our humble servants willing to listen to reason. As if the typical voter cares about anything other than his own interests.

Leadership? We don't need no stinkin' leadership. All we need is enough votes to get reelected.

  1. I agree. However, I highly doubt that a Republican administration would act differently

  2. I suppose you have your reasons for doubt. But I prefer to think that there are Americans who could put their self-aggrandizing tendencies aside in favor of leading their country out of its difficulties, without undue consideration for the popularity (or lack thereof) of the steps they would take to lead the way. We have had such leaders in our history. I see no reason to think they have become extinct.

  3. I don't think such leaders have become extinct. I just think that the negative influence of our two major political parties makes it nearly impossible to allow a true selfless leader to even get elected, let alone lead our country out of difficulty. The sad thing is, this potential leader would have to lie through his teeth throughout his campaign in order to get elected.(This happens anyway, I guess!)

    It's a double-edged sword. In order to get elected, you really need to align yourself with one of the two major political parties. Then, if you alienate your own party after you get elected, you won't get anything done, and you most certainly won't get re-elected.

    Ideally, we would need someone who was not affiliated with any political party, but so appealing, that members of each party would be willing to vote for that person. Fat chance of that ever happening. Now, I'm getting depressed!

  4. Dear Anonymous,
    I appreciate your thoughtful response to my first response. I will give your remarks some thought and respond in a new post #728 (yet to be written), because the issues you raise deserve more than a brief comment.
    Thanx.
