“The increasingly frantic policy gambits can be attributed to the attempt to convince the voters that Obama is not a failed president. If only he can get a deal on — fill in the blank — then he’ll cut the losing streak and regain his political mojo. The theory is as, well, desperate as are the individual schemes. The president’s difficulties stem from his jobs-killing agenda, his misunderstanding of the Middle East and most other foreign policy conflicts, and his inability to relate to voters.”

Hopelessly seeking hope? Desperately seeking calm? Blindly seeking clarity?

You can't squeeze blood from a rock. Why? Because there is no "there" there. When hopey-dopey is finally revealed to be the empty suit that is masquerading as the emperor's new cloths, even children will see that the tooth fairy is the pied piper for deluded free-lunchers. I have said it before, but it bears repeating ad nauseam: There is no free lunch.

The dénouement will not be pretty. Subsequent to the quake of realization, many after-shocks will have to be endured: crushing disappointment; mounting anger; chaotic lashing out, including endless finger-pointing and denials of complicity. Ultimately, if all goes well, sanity will revert to it's rightful place of normalcy. America's meritorious and ethical standards will be embraced once again as the concepts to be proud of. And Sousa's The Stars and Stripes Forever will rise again:
[I have had the exact same fantasy as President Bush!]
