The drama unravels even as we speak ...

Gov. Blagojevich (Macedonian patronymic meaning:
"Благој's son"; alternatively, "son of a gentile blogger")

“Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich of Illinois was arrested by federal authorities on Tuesday morning and charged with corruption, including an allegation that he conspired to profit from his authority to appoint President-elect Barack Obama’s successor in the United States Senate, prosecutors said.

As Mr. Blagojevich, a Democrat, mulled the Senate appointment, prosecutors say, he discussed gaining ‘a substantial salary’ at a nonprofit foundation or organization connected to labor unions, placing his wife on corporate boards where she might earn as much as $150,000 a year and trying to gain promises of campaign money, or even a cabinet post or ambassadorship, for himself.”
I swear, I heard this guy on YOUR WORLD WITH NEIL CAVUTO just yesterday:
“NEIL CAVUTO, HOST: To Illinois right now. Governor Rod Blagojevich is ready to suspend business with the Bank of America. It’s all over this sit-in that has been going on at a Chicago window and door factory that just closed ...”
As I recall, Blagojevich was telling Cavuto how helping those factory workers who have just lost their jobs was the compassionate thing to do, what with Bank of America getting billions in Congressional bailout bucks and all ...

Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against showing compassion to the downtrodden, especially during the holiday season. But whence all this hypocrisy? I know it's Illinois politics, but break me a f*cking give!
“Have you no sense of decency, sir, at long last? Have you left no sense of decency?”
 — Joseph N. Welch, delivered 9 June 1954 during the Army-McCarthy Hearings in Washington, D.C.

  1. The name may have Macedonian roots, but the man has Serbian Blood. ;-D

    He's listed on Wikipedia as "the second Serbian American to be elected governor of any state of the United States, after George Voinovich of Ohio."

    Where did ya get that "Macedonian patronymic meaning"?

    I love it!

    Hee, hee! ;-D

  2. Kiril,

    My "Macedonian patronymic meaning" is a 3-language pun that just came to me in a flash:

    (1) It's a Slavic patronymic from its "-evich" suffix;
    (2) I translated "Bla" to the English "blogger" using "poetic" license";
    (3) I took "goj" to be the Yiddish "goy" which is a disparaging word for "gentile" (i.e., a non-Jew).

    Hence: Blagojevich => "son of a gentile blogger"
