I compute the "American Mood" index [%] as a weighted average of three indices, based on three of Gallup's Daily Averages: Obama Job Approval [%]; Economic Confidence Index [#]; and Consumer Spending [$].
Prior to computing the weighted average, I express each of those three Gallup's Daily Averages as a fraction of its corresponding 52-week spread. My choices of weights are 1/6, 1/3, and 1/2 for the Obama Job Approval, Economic Confidence Index, and Consumer Spending fractions, respectively.
