200,000 Germans Can't Be Wrong

[Suggested by tristein]

 Barack Obama is not Superman.
  David Hasselhoff is.

So 200,000 Germans filled a rock stadium to show their love for Barack Obama. If memory serves, millions of Germans loved Kaiser Wilhelm II, and even more millions idolized Adolph Hitler.

Fortunately, the American Presidency is not necessarily awarded to anyone whom the Germans happen to favor overwhelmingly. Nor should the choice be dependent merely on a candidate's popularity in the United States. Popularity contests are for grade school elections, not national elections. At least that is the theory. Of course it would be naive to assume that the American electorate is any more sophisticated than, say, the German electorate or any other electorate. We do, after all, have a penchant for "reality" programing on TV and Holyshitwood movies.

Sigh. It's hopeless, isn't it? You all think he's the greatest thing since sliced bread because, well, he tells you he is, and because his wonderful wife is so proud of him and his country.

Have I mentioned that the Germans love David Hasselhoff?

  1. Obama certainly has mastered the art of self-praise and self-promotion. Here he is on his recent globe trotting:

    "...we did it really well."

"In terms of me governing, being an effective president, that trip was helpful..."

Fellow Americans, rejoice that preaching to a packed stadium of Germans has helped Obama in "being an effective president!"

  2. You need to work over your brother in law Ken, he's still standing in the middle since he's so disenchanted with Bush

  3. Well, Steve, the last time I checked, George W. Bush will have completed his lifetime allotment of Presidential terms by next January. And, although it is not entirely on point, IMHO he has done an excellent job and I predict future historians will concur.

In any case, John McCain is not George W. Bush, despite the Democratic efforts to confuse their easily befuddled Party faithful. And McCain is, again IMHO, a much more substantial and credible Presidential Candidate than that smarmy opponent (and his charming wife).
