There are many thousands, and in some areas of expertise — perhaps millions of professional experts in the world. If we specify the area of expertise, however, chances are very good that you are not one of those experts.

If you happen to strike up a conversation with someone and discover that that person is an expert in a field you may have some interest in, try not to ask the expert to bring you up to speed in 25 words or less. That would be an insult to the time and effort the expert invested in the process of becoming an expert, or, in the case of the rare individual like Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, an insult to the genius he was born with.

Try not to be a dick.
