The Art of "More•than•I•needed•to•know"

{ link » Subject•Article}

The other day I was chatting with wifey about the desensitization of society with respect to shock. What could Holyshitwood, terrorists, or even Jimmy Carter do or say that would truly shock anyone? The subject article answers that question, at least for me.

Art major Aliza Shvarts '08 wants to make a statement.

Beginning next Tuesday, Shvarts will be displaying her senior art project, a documentation of a nine-month process during which she artificially inseminated herself "as often as possible" while periodically taking abortifacient drugs to induce miscarriages. Her exhibition will feature video recordings of these forced miscarriages as well as preserved collections of the blood from the process.
Lord have mercy, I can see it now. Multitudes of other like-minded "artists" will begin applying to Yale, heretofore one of America's elite Ivy League Universities, where the concept of "Freedom of Speech" has been stretched beyond what the Founding Fathers could have possibly imagined, with the possible exception of Ben Franklin (an avowed amateur gynecologist).

Once again the mind can boggle in contemplation of future senior art projects. Nevertheless, this too shall pass. Fear not, however, for a whole new world of possibilities will emerge to reinvigorate shock value — the new art itself will emerge from the privacy of the artist's bathroom unto the world stage.
