Julianne at Cosmic Variance considers the advisability of Earth's willingness to pick up galactic hitchhikers in our new SETI ride. There are reasonable arguments both pro and con. But my own inclination is to go with the tried and true in global matters. We must always be mindful of Big Al's observation about the probable infinity of the universe in general, and the certain infinity of human stupidity in particular.
