The Dumbing Down of America #7,349

In the interest of "fair and balanced" commentary, I wish to register my dismay at some of the nauseating BS that Fox News, along with all the usual leftist suspects, are foisting on their viewers.

As is my wont, I was tuned to Fox while doing my daily treadmill workout today. Of course, "The Obamitude Love-in" was in full swing, not that there is anything wrong with that, I hasten to add. This is indeed a historic Inauguration, as we have been reminded 24/7 for ... like ... ever, or so it seems. Anyway, I repeat, I have no problem with the Love-in. I also wish the President-elect all the best — he is, after all, my next President too.

Here's the problem, as I see it. What this country needs is not more dumbing down. So when the MSM, in its desperation to keep the Love-in going non-stop until it mercifully ends after tomorrow, God willing, they feel it necessary to put every damn triviality into "historical perspective". That in itself, however, is not a problem because I believe there is a dearth of knowledge and understanding of a great many civics issues.

But, when the talking heads or their managers feel it necessary to have a "specialist" on-board to enlighten the viewers about factoids that I was interested in (and, therefore, researched myself) as a 5th grader, that I submit to you, dear reader, is an insult to even a high-school dropout.

The suggestion that it is necessary to draw on the "special knowledge" of an "expert" in order to repeat little tidbits like, "President Harrison (the grandfather) died a month after his inauguration because he should have worn an overcoat when giving his lengthy Inauguration Address in very inclement weather ...", well, that sort of notion for "expertise" is simply asinine.
