Decisive Victory at Stalingrad

The Battle of Stalingrad has ended in a decisive victory for the Russian forces. What may prove to be the turning point of World War II in the European Theater was, arguably, the bloodiest battle in human history. Within a week's time, an estimate of combined casualties exceeding 1.5 million will be released.

The battle was marked by brutality and disregard for military and civilian casualties on both sides. The battle is taken to include the German siege of Stalingrad, the battle inside the city, and the Russian counter-offensive, which eventually trapped and destroyed the German Sixth Army and other Axis forces around the city.
