The other day, as I rode my Chevy Melt to Levi's Bar-n-Grill, I recalled, with dry humor, how seven score and seven years ago our Republican father, Big Abe in heaven (hallowed be his name), led the fight for law and Union in the early West. His spirit will return to us in November, we pray, and bring forth on this continent those thrilling days of yesteryear. As he rides his fiery silver-steed at the head of an army of faithful companions, we shall trample out the vintage Pinot where the sour grapes are stored, primarily in the San Francisco Bay area, where the bat-shit crazies hang, mostly upside-down.
It is altogether fitting and proper that we do this. The brave men and women, both living and dead, who struggled here for centuries shall not have given their full measure of devotion just to have the dark-side evil-doers make a mockery of our new birth of freedom. We will sweep the streets with them and with the brooms they rode in on.
And as we march into the third millennium, having triumphed over gauche ideology and gross sausage-making, we will give thanks in late November for traditional American values — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
