The Jargon of Politicos

In a recent interview on ABC's "This Week," New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson contended that real progress in Iraq is dependent on a U.S. withdrawal from that country.
"What I believe, George [Stephanopoulos], is that all of this talk about casualty counts going down, that is wrong," said Richardson.

"That is not how you measure progress. You measure progress by: Is there movement toward political compromise? The answer is no. Is there movement towards a division of oil revenues? No. Is there movement toward regional stability, with Iran and Syria perhaps participating in a constructive way? The answer is no."
I get it. Progress is what I say it is. That way, you see, I can say whatever the f*ck I want, and say it with an appropriate dash of bluster and conviction.

That is not how you measure progress, Bill. You measure progress by: Is there movement toward liberal-left sanity? The answer is no. Is there movement towards a division of "liberal-left fact" from fiction? No. Is there movement toward regional stability, with Iran and Syria perhaps getting their due with extreme prejudice? The answer is: not yet.

It works for me, dude.
