Be reasonable; or be dead

There is a great line in As Good as It Gets when the Jack Nicholson character explains how he writes women so well, "I think of a man, and I take away reason and accountability." Of course, this can not be true, because it is a generalization demeaning to all women. But it is a memorable hyperbole because it uses humor to make a bold statement, which has significant bearing on the insanity of the new liberal left.

Reality is probabilistic process. There is no certainty, only probabilities ranging between 0 and 1 (excluding the end points). At best or at worst, you can only be reasonably sure about anything, but never certain. Guilty beyond reasonable doubt; otherwise, not guilty.

When DNA testing supplanted fingerprints as the forensic evidence of choice in criminal jurisprudence, it quantified for all intents and purposes the fuzzy concept of reasonable doubt. One chance in a billion is way beyond reasonable doubt, for there are only around 6 billion men, women, and children in the whole world. Yet, at least until recently, crime dramas would always depict some moron defense lawyer gloating that despite such odds, the evidence could not identify the defendant with certainty!

American justice is based on several reasonable principles, including that it is preferable for a multitude of guilty defendants to be acquitted than to have one innocent be convicted. But, what is a reasonable number for a multitude. A hundred? A thousand? Ten thousand? A billion? Clearly not a billion, since you would never be willing to convict anyone of any crime. Might as well have anarchy then.

A new liberal leftist is a rational person whose prefrontal cortex has had its reason and accountability excised by a plastic surgeon in Holyshitwood. Rational people are against war. Rational people are also against being annihilated. How do they reconcile abhorrence for war as well as for annihilation of self? They rely on reason. Rational people choose war over self annihilation. The new liberal left prefers self annihilation. I have no problem with that, except that, more than anything else, I abhor becoming their annihilation's collateral damage.
